Job Description
The General Manager for Balance Sheet Management is tasked with the critical responsibility of overseeing the bank's liquid assets, ensuring optimal liquidity, and managing all investment-related activities. This position is central to the Asset Liability Management function within the Treasury department, focusing on strategic financial oversight and risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure business profitability by effectively managing funds to maintain optimal balances, overseeing liquidity, mitigating interest rate risk, and maximizing returns from excess investment cash.
- Formulate the Asset Liability and Investment strategic plan for the department to achieve targets for liquidity, revenue, investment income, securities trading profits, and cost management.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with local and foreign counterparties to enhance credit lines.
- Identify and manage market and settlement risks encountered daily by the department, ensuring all dealers adhere to counterparty trading and credit limits.
- Cultivate and maintain high-level contacts with current and prospective customers, regulatory authorities, and product partners.
- Ensure strict compliance with the bank’s internal risk thresholds and regulatory limits set by the Central Bank of Kenya.
- Support the Treasurer and ALCO in developing and executing departmental and bank-wide strategic plans.
- Organize and attend meetings with the Central Bank of Kenya, key banks, brokers, and money market teams.
- Streamline and improve operational procedures as necessary.
- Ensure full compliance with all Risk and Know Your Customer (KYC) standards.
- Arrange for the training and development of reporting staff to enhance their job knowledge and prepare them for future leadership roles.
- Foster a professional, proactive, and performance-driven culture within the department through effective communication, involvement, objective setting, appraisal, training, development, and appropriate recognition and reward, to ensure high-quality output.
- Act as a proxy for the FX Trading Desk when required.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related specialization of study.
- Possess relevant professional qualifications.
- Be a member of a relevant professional body.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Have a minimum of 6 years of overall experience, with at least two (2) years at a managerial level.
- Demonstrate high levels of integrity.
- Possess strong communication skills for both internal and external interactions, including formal presentations.
- Be dynamic, analytical, and self-driven, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
- Exhibit a passion for performance, be a team player, and strive for achievement in a competitive and dynamic environment.
- Be hardworking, strategically minded, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have a thorough understanding of Forex procedures, Prudential Guidelines, and banking practices, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff.
