Job Description
The Sonographer will be responsible for delivering diagnostic medical sonography services across various clinical specialties. This role involves performing activities consistent with education, training, and MSI policies, procedures, and professional standards. Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Sonographer's primary purpose is to conduct high-quality ultrasound examinations for clients, generate accurate reports to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment, and contribute to MSI's mission of enabling reproductive choice in Kenya. The successful candidate will uphold MSI's global core values.
Key Responsibilities
- Review client medical history and clinical information, communicating appropriately about procedures.
- Conduct client clinical assessments and perform diagnostic medical sonography examinations as ordered by the supervising physician, following professional and facility protocols.
- Examine images, synthesize results, and prepare preliminary findings.
- Exercise independent judgment during examinations to accurately capture anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions.
- Ensure client safety throughout the sonographic examination.
- Maintain client privacy and confidentiality in line with privacy laws and facility policies.
- Utilize proper client positioning tools, equipment adjustments, and ergonomic scanning techniques to ensure client comfort, safety, and prevent musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer.
- Generate demand for ultrasound services by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to increase client volumes.
- Prepare the examination room and ultrasound equipment according to infection control, sterilization, and client safety protocols.
- Acquire additional ultrasound imaging as needed to optimize diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.
- Identify and document any limitations of the sonography examination, escalating as appropriate.
- Take responsibility for the preventive maintenance of ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal operation.
- Operate the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
- Always uphold safeguarding principles when interacting with clients.
Requirements
- Hold a Diploma in Ultrasound, Medical Imaging Sciences, or Radiography from a recognized institution.
- Possess at least two years of working experience as a sonographer in a reputable hospital or medical facility.
- Be registered with the relevant regulatory or professional body, if applicable, and hold a current practicing license.
- Be computer literate.
- Have knowledge of relevant legislations.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills.
- Exhibit keen observation skills.
- Possess analytical skills.
- Be a team player.
