Job Description
The Slitting Line Operator at MRM Mariakani is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Slitting Line. This role involves producing coils that adhere to customer specifications, quality standards, and production targets. The operator must ensure optimal equipment performance, comply with all safety standards, and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor the Slitting Line to achieve production targets, maintain product quality, and ensure equipment reliability.
- Prepare and set up tooling and equipment according to production requirements.
- Monitor production parameters and make necessary adjustments for efficient operation.
- Maintain accurate records for production, quality, and traceability.
- Support planned and breakdown maintenance activities, including performing Autonomous Maintenance tasks.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve productivity and reduce downtime by monitoring operational performance.
- Ensure products meet customer specifications and established quality standards.
- Conduct routine quality checks and escalate non-conformities for corrective action.
- Maintain product traceability and support quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and continuous improvement activities.
- Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Adhere to Lockout/Tagout/Tryout (LOTOTO), Permit-to-Work, and safe work practices.
- Identify, report, and address unsafe conditions and near misses.
- Participate in safety inspections, toolbox talks, and emergency response activities.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards through the implementation of 6S principles.
- Participate in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Kaizen, and Operational Excellence initiatives.
- Support the achievement of productivity, yield, quality, and cost targets.
- Contribute ideas that enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and equipment reliability.
Requirements
- Minimum KCSE Certificate.
- Government Grade Test III in General Fitting, Mechanical Engineering Craft Certificate, or an equivalent technical qualification.
- Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related field (added advantage).
- Knowledge of Steel Processing Operations (added advantage).
- Training in 6S, Autonomous Maintenance, and TPM (added advantage).
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 systems (added advantage).
- Minimum three (3) years of machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment.
- At least one (1) year of experience operating a Slitting Line, Cut-to-Length Line, Roll Forming Line, or equivalent steel processing equipment.
- Experience in steel processing or heavy manufacturing environment (added advantage).
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- Physically fit to work in a manufacturing environment and wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ability to safely handle production equipment and tooling.
