Operator – Entry

Mabati Rolling Mills Limited (MRM) is a member of the Safal Group, founded in 1962. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the company specializes in manufacturing various products.

The Operator position at MRM Mariakani focuses on the safe and efficient operation of the Pickling Line's Entry Section. The primary goal is to ensure a continuous supply of hot rolled coils for the pickling process, while upholding high standards of product quality, operational efficiency, equipment reliability, and strict adherence to safety protocols. This role is critical for maintaining smooth material flow and achieving production targets within the manufacturing environment.

1. Operate and monitor Entry Section equipment to meet production targets and ensure smooth material flow.
2. Verify material identification, specifications, and production schedules before processing.
3. Ensure proper strip preparation, threading, and feeding into the pickling process.
4. Maintain accurate records for production, welding, inspection, and traceability.
5. Support planned and breakdown maintenance activities, and perform Autonomous Maintenance tasks.
6. Monitor operational performance to identify opportunities for productivity improvement and downtime reduction.
7. Process coils according to quality standards and production requirements.
8. Conduct routine inspections and report material or process non-conformities.
9. Maintain product traceability through precise operational documentation.
10. Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and continuous improvement initiatives.
11. Comply with all Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) requirements, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Permit-to-Work, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTOTO) procedures.
12. Identify, report, and address unsafe conditions, hazards, and near misses.
13. Ensure correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe material handling practices.
14. Participate in safety inspections, emergency drills, and safety improvement initiatives.
15. Maintain housekeeping standards by implementing 6S principles.
16. Participate in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Kaizen, and Operational Excellence initiatives.
17. Support improvements in productivity, quality, and equipment reliability.
18. Contribute ideas to enhance safety, efficiency, and overall operational performance.

1. KCSE Certificate.
2. Government Grade Test II in General Fitting, Mechanical Engineering Craft Certificate, or an equivalent technical qualification.
3. Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Industrial Plant Operations (added advantage).
4. Knowledge of Pickling Line Operations (added advantage).
5. Knowledge of strip welding and coil handling operations (added advantage).
6. Training in 6S, TPM, and Autonomous Maintenance (added advantage).
7. Minimum of 2 years of machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment.
8. At least 1 year of experience in Pickling Line operations, steel processing, or similar production operations.
9. Experience in a steel processing or heavy manufacturing environment (added advantage).
10. Proficiency in Pickling Line Entry Section operation.
11. Skills in coil handling and strip welding.
12. Competence in production planning and process control.
13. Ability in equipment care and Autonomous Maintenance.
14. Skills in quality inspection and defect identification.
15. Awareness of TPM and Continuous Improvement principles.
16. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
17. Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
