Internship Description

AGSOL is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern with a strong grasp of mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing technologies, materials, and design. The successful candidate will possess hands-on building skills, apply frugal prototyping methods, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment. This full-time position, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with a start date in November 2026, and is offered as an annual renewable contract.

What You Will Do

  1. Assist in the design and manufacturing processes for new products and accessories.
  2. Create, update, and review 3D engineering models using Solid Edge software.
  3. Develop, update, and review detailed 2D manufacturing drawings.
  4. Collaborate with external mechanical engineering contractors on design challenges.
  5. Prototype new designs in-house using various tools such as lathes, vertical mills, and 3D printers.
  6. Prepare documentation for assembly staff, quality control personnel, and customers.
  7. Gather customer feedback on products and propose design improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  8. Maintain and update existing technical documentation.
  9. Diagnose field failures, conduct root cause analysis, and suggest robust design or process modifications.
  10. Monitor and track technical performance metrics.

Requirements

  1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in design or manufacturing, with second-class honors or higher.
  2. Possess strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, design practices, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  3. Be proficient in using Solid Edge or similar 3D CAD software.
  4. Demonstrate practical experience in building physical objects.
  5. Have hands-on experience with machinery such as lathes, vertical mills, welding machines, and 3D printers.
  6. Exhibit strong metrology skills, including practical experience with precision measurement tools and techniques.
  7. Be capable of designing and executing experiments, including developing test setups and fixtures.
  8. Possess basic data analysis and reporting skills, with proficiency in Excel for organizing and presenting test results.
  9. Demonstrate excellent analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  10. Have strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work independently.
  11. Possess effective and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.
  12. Have in-depth knowledge of the MS Office suite.
