Job Description
The Medical Officer at the Outreach Clinic in Ruiru is responsible for consistently reviewing and examining patients, which includes taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic laboratory and radiology studies in line with evidence-based practice. They monitor the progress of both acute and chronically ill patients regularly and engage with patients and caregivers to facilitate better diagnostic and therapeutic medical care. The role also involves performing privileged and potentially life-saving emergency surgical and medical procedures when necessary, providing evidence-based screening, wellness examinations, risk assessments, and early detection, along with education on illness prevention. The officer initiates timely discussions with relevant consultants or departments for specialized cases and establishes links with clinic management and the main hospital to ensure smooth patient referrals. They work closely with clinical and non-clinical teams to deliver patient-centric, coordinated care, reduce errors and waste, and optimize resource utilization, actively participating in clinic quality initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Consistently review and examine patients, including taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests.
- Monitor the progress of acute and chronically ill patients regularly.
- Initiate discussions with patients and caregivers to improve diagnostic and therapeutic medical care.
- Perform privileged and potentially life-saving emergency surgical and medical procedures when required.
- Provide evidence-based screening, wellness examinations, risk assessment, early detection, and education on illness prevention.
- Initiate timely discussions with consultants/departments for specialized treatment plans.
- Establish links with clinic management and the main hospital for efficient patient referrals.
- Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical teams to provide patient-centric, coordinated care and optimize resource utilization.
- Actively participate in clinic quality initiatives.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or an equivalent qualification.
- Successfully completed at least two years of post-graduate internship.
- Registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
- Possess Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certifications.
