Internship Description
The purpose of this role is to provide supervised operational and administrative support to the underwriting team. The intern will assist with reviewing proposal forms, verifying client documentation, capturing data, documenting policies, and performing routine follow-up activities. This position aims to provide practical exposure to established underwriting processes and standards within the company.
What You Will Do
- Assist in reviewing proposal forms and client documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, adherence to KYC requirements, and compliance with underwriting guidelines before escalating to senior underwriters.
- Support data capture, booking of approved retail policies, and issuance of motor certificates in accordance with approved procedures and supervision.
- Verify and organize underwriting records, including proposal forms, policy schedules, endorsements, and valuation reports, within the document management system.
- Prepare routine policy documents, endorsements, renewal notices, and customer correspondence for review and approval by the supervising underwriter.
- Help track referred risks, pending renewals, endorsements, and outstanding requirements to ensure timely turnaround and service delivery.
- Respond to routine customer, branch, and intermediary queries under guidance, escalating technical or complex matters to senior underwriters.
- Support the preparation and dispatch of debit notes, credit notes, and related communication in line with credit control procedures.
- Compile basic underwriting data and reports to assist senior underwriters in risk review, workflow monitoring, and process improvement activities.
- Observe delegated authority limits and ensure all underwriting decisions, approvals, and exceptions are referred to the appropriate authorized officers.
- Perform other learning and operational support duties as assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the internship.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, with a preference for an insurance option.
- No prior experience required, but foundational knowledge of insurance processes and procedures is an advantage.
- Computer literate.
- Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with various insurance products.
- Sales and marketing management skills.
- Ability to handle client relationships diplomatically.
