The Collections and Recovery Supervisor at Umba is tasked with managing the entire debt recovery process. This includes ensuring the ethical and efficient collection of outstanding debts, fostering positive relationships with customers, and overseeing the logistics of asset repossession and recovery. A key aspect of the role is to analyze recovery trends and provide valuable intelligence back to the underwriting department to inform future credit decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Achieve set collection targets for outstanding debts within the assigned portfolio.
- Adhere strictly to the company's debt recovery cycle and collections policy.
- Offer proactive guidance to clients to prevent accounts from becoming delinquent.
- Oversee relationships with various external partners including collection agencies, investigators, auctioneers, and valuers.
- Ensure the portfolio at risk (PAR) remains below the specified threshold for the allocated portfolio.
- Coordinate asset liquidation and repossession processes according to established procedures, including car-track monitoring and liaison with auctioneers.
- Liaise with external legal counsel on escalated cases, monitoring court proceedings and ensuring timely resolution of recovery matters.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on collection and repossession progress to the Supervisor.
- Provide feedback on recovery trends and root causes to the Supervisor to aid future credit decisions.
- Maintain strict data security and confidentiality for all customer and company information.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in collections, debt recovery, or asset-finance recovery.
- At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
- Proficiency in debt recovery cycles and negotiation techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate repossession and asset liquidation processes.
- Familiarity with car-tracking systems.
- Strong persuasive, assertive, and professional communication skills.
- Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure.
- High level of ethical conduct and trustworthiness.
- Willingness to travel for site visits as required.
