Job Description

The primary objective of this position is to drive sustainable economic profit from a portfolio of Public Sector and Infrastructure clients. This involves proactive business development and robust risk management at both an individual and team level. The role is also responsible for meeting annual revenue targets, sales volumes, customer acquisitions, and cross-selling opportunities within the assigned portfolio. It includes leading marketing initiatives, assessing and maintaining transactions, acquiring new clients, and building strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. The Sector Head must manage organizational complexities to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for customers and Absa, continuously seeking customer feedback to maintain high satisfaction levels. Furthermore, the role requires developing and enhancing the business focus and target market within the sector, maintaining consistent engagement with existing and prospective customers, and understanding industry dynamics to manage credit costs effectively. Ensuring compliance with credit reviews, audits, and the bank's AML and KYC policies is also crucial, alongside effective communication with customers to position Absa as a reliable banking service provider.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Identify and pursue sales opportunities with new and existing customers, facilitating introductions to product specialists.
  2. Develop and implement business development strategies to adapt to market changes.
  3. Monitor and address customer complaints effectively.
  4. Research competitive threats and opportunities within the bank's market.
  5. Communicate key messages to customers, including service standards, pricing, contact points, and product changes.
  6. Keep customers informed about the delivery timelines for product and credit applications.
  7. Understand and meet customer requirements, taking responsibility for problem-solving.
  8. Achieve challenging targets, focusing on value addition for the bank and customers.
  9. Control and manage credit risk within the assigned corporate customer portfolio.
  10. Maximize economic profit for the individual and team customer portfolios.
  11. Manage performance against financial, sales, service, and operational targets.
  12. Ensure service delivery and support functions meet stipulated service level agreements.
  13. Develop and implement customer relationship plans.
  14. Collaborate with Corporate Credit Managers to assess and recommend credit facilities.
  15. Work collaboratively with colleagues, fostering teamwork and acting in the bank's best interest.
  16. Be receptive to feedback and continuously develop new skills and knowledge.
  17. Enhance organizational capability by optimizing team performance.
  18. Identify personal strengths and weaknesses, review self-development plans, and pursue relevant training.
  19. Support the implementation of the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) program across the CIB Team and the wider bank.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's Degree qualification.
  2. Over 5 years of technical or managerial experience.
  3. Experience in understanding business dynamics, particularly Public Sector customer requirements (over 5 years).
  4. Experience in managing Public Sector clients with diverse product needs and complexities, including Corporate & Project Finance, Transactional Banking, and Markets products.
  5. Understanding of how various bank areas are positioned to meet Public Sector customer challenges.
  6. Advanced knowledge of Banking principles.
  7. Basic knowledge of the bank's lending criteria in Business and Personal sectors.
  8. Fair understanding of current macro and micro economic issues.
