Piping Design Engineer
Octavia Carbon
Posted 2 hours ago
Deadline: Dec 20, 2026About the Company
Octavia Carbon specializes in developing and operating Direct Air Capture (DAC) plants, including geothermal-integrated facilities, focused on carbon capture technology.
Job Description
This role involves leading the comprehensive design, procurement, and ongoing lifecycle management of piping systems and mechanical equipment within Octavia Carbon's Direct Air Capture (DAC) plants, which include geothermal-integrated facilities. The position is highly practical, encompassing the entire asset lifecycle from initial plant and pipe layout design, through equipment selection and purchasing, to continuous maintenance of piping and equipment in the field. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the process engineering team and site operators to ensure that all plant designs prioritize reliability, safety, and long-term operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop plant layouts and detailed pipe routing for DAC facilities, including geothermal-integrated plants.
- Produce and review piping deliverables such as plot plans, piping layouts, isometrics, pipe supports, stress-critical line analysis, and tie-in designs.
- Select appropriate piping materials, wall thicknesses, and specifications based on process conditions like temperature, pressure, fluid composition, and corrosivity.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards, including ASME B31.1/B31.3, ASME BPVC, and API standards.
- Coordinate piping design efforts with mechanical, process, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
- Collaborate with the process engineering team to obtain and interpret process conditions, datasheets, and duty requirements.
- Select, specify, and purchase mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, and valves.
- Prepare technical requisitions, evaluate vendor bids, and conduct technical bid analyses.
- Review vendor drawings and documentation, managing technical clarifications until delivery.
- Support factory acceptance tests (FATs) and equipment commissioning.
- Identify and assess corrosion and degradation mechanisms specific to DAC and geothermal service, including CO2 corrosion, chloride pitting, stress corrosion cracking, erosion-corrosion, scaling, and H2S/sour service where applicable.
- Recommend suitable materials, coatings, linings, and corrosion allowances to prevent or mitigate degradation.
- Define and support inspection programs, such as corrosion monitoring, wall-thickness surveys, and NDT, in collaboration with site teams.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Possess experience in piping design and/or plant mechanical engineering, preferably within process industries like chemical, geothermal, power, oil & gas, or carbon capture.
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, blowers, and fans, covering selection, operation, and common failure modes.
- Have working knowledge of metallurgy and corrosion mechanisms, with practical experience in selecting materials to prevent them.
- Be proficient with piping design tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D and familiar with pipe stress analysis, along with a solid understanding of relevant codes and standards (ASME B31.3, API 610/617/std series, or equivalents).
- Be able to read and interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and equipment datasheets.
- Be willing to spend regular time on site to support operations and maintenance teams.
