Avocado Manager- Simba Farm

AAA Growers Limited, founded in 2000, is an agricultural company specializing in premium vegetables, herbs, chilies, and fruits. Their Veg division focuses on producing a variety of these products for export, grown both in-house and open field to ensure consistent supply and quality.

AAA Growers – Veg, a division of AAA Group, specializes in producing and exporting premium vegetables, herbs, chilies, and fruits. This role is crucial for managing the Simba Avocado orchards, focusing on production and overall maintenance. The company started growing herbs in 2010 and now cultivates them across three farms, utilizing both in-house and open-field methods to maintain consistent supply and quality throughout the year.

1. Ensure general plant hygiene and health, monitoring for signs of stress, disease, or pest incursions.
2. Implement plant nutrition and pest control activities as directed by senior management.
3. Manage and maintain irrigation systems, spraying equipment, and field working tools.
4. Oversee quality control and proper handling of harvested fruits.
5. Provide training on new techniques such as propping, pruning, harvesting, weeding, mulching, and field drainage.
6. Develop an avocado crop model to track phenological growth stages throughout the season.
7. Adhere to a robust avocado gap-filling/infilling program to maintain a uniform stand of trees.
8. Source avocado scions for grafting from reputable suppliers.
9. Plan and forecast avocado seedling grafting and delivery according to seasonal demands.
10. Ensure all labor in the section is effective and efficient, with staff achieving recommended daily tasks.
11. Train staff in organic farming, grafting, pruning, crop management, and other necessary practices.
12. Manage daily orchard operations including nursery management, transplanting, irrigation, fertilizer application, pest management, and harvesting.
13. Assist the agronomy team in effective pest control, keeping pests and diseases below threshold levels.
14. Monitor and schedule irrigation based on crop requirements and production stages.
15. Apply deep agricultural knowledge of avocado crop husbandry and seasons in East Africa.
16. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of avocado husbandry practices.
17. Ensure orchard operations comply with all agricultural audit guidelines.
18. Address and resolve any deviations from established standards.

1. Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience in orchard or plantation management, preferably with avocado or other fruit crops.
3. Proven experience in crop husbandry practices including pruning, grafting, irrigation management, and pest/disease control.
4. Experience in managing farm labor teams, ensuring productivity, compliance, and safety standards.
5. Strong understanding of avocado crop growth stages, phenological monitoring, and seasonal planning.
6. Proficiency in irrigation scheduling, fertilizer application, and pest and disease management.
7. Ability to manage inventory, tools, and field equipment, ensuring proper utilization and maintenance.
8. Sound knowledge of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Global GAP, and other agricultural audit standards.
9. Excellent people management skills, including staff supervision, training, and performance monitoring.
10. Hands-on, proactive, and results-oriented approach to orchard management.
11. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a passion for continuous learning and improvement.
