Construction Interior Designer

Burhani Engineers Ltd. offers end-to-end solutions in electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, and civil fields. It is an established EPC Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering company operating in the East and Central Africa region with offices in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kampala, and Dar-es-Salaam.

This role involves leading interior design projects from initial concept to final handover, ensuring all aspects align with client requirements and project objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for developing creative and functional design concepts, coordinating with various stakeholders including architects, engineers, and contractors, and overseeing project execution to maintain design integrity. A key part of the role also includes managing client relationships, controlling budgets, conducting site supervision for quality assurance, and overseeing facilities maintenance and renovation projects. The designer will also handle procurement, supplier coordination, and maintain thorough project documentation.

1. Develop creative and functional interior design concepts that meet client requirements and project objectives.
2. Prepare mood boards, material palettes, space planning layouts, and design presentations.
3. Produce detailed interior design drawings, specifications, and schedules.
4. Recommend suitable finishes, furniture, fixtures, lighting, and accessories for projects.
5. Ensure designs comply with applicable building regulations, safety standards, and company requirements.
6. Independently manage assigned interior design projects from design stage through project handover.
7. Conduct site surveys and gather project requirements.
8. Coordinate with architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, contractors, suppliers, and clients throughout project execution.
9. Monitor project progress and ensure design intent is maintained during installation.
10. Resolve design-related issues on-site and provide practical solutions as they arise.
11. Meet clients to understand project requirements, preferences, and expectations.
12. Present design proposals and obtain necessary approvals.
13. Provide regular project updates and respond promptly to client concerns.
14. Build and maintain positive client relationships to support repeat business opportunities.
15. Prepare project cost estimates and material schedules.
16. Ensure proposed designs align with approved budgets.
17. Recommend cost-effective design alternatives where necessary.
18. Monitor design variations and communicate any cost implications to management and clients.
19. Conduct regular site inspections during project implementation.
20. Verify that workmanship and materials conform to approved specifications.
21. Prepare site observation reports and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
22. Ensure projects are completed to the required quality standards.
23. Inspect existing facilities to identify repair, maintenance, and renovation requirements, and develop appropriate schedules.
24. Design, plan, coordinate, and oversee repairs, preventive maintenance works, alterations, and renovation projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, budgets, timelines, and quality.
25. Assess facility conditions and recommend cost-effective improvement solutions to enhance functionality, aesthetics, safety, and asset lifespan.
26. Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders for timely execution of maintenance and renovation activities.
27. Monitor and verify the quality of completed repair, maintenance, and renovation works and recommend corrective actions.
28. Source materials, finishes, furniture, fittings, and décor items.
29. Evaluate supplier proposals and samples for suitability and quality.
30. Coordinate material deliveries and installation schedules.
31. Maintain relationships with suppliers and contractors to support project delivery.
32. Maintain accurate project records, drawings, approvals, and correspondence.
33. Prepare project progress reports and status updates.
34. Ensure all project documentation is properly filed and updated.

1. Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
2. Professional certification in Interior Design is an added advantage.
3. Minimum 6 years of experience in Interior Design and construction project execution.
4. Proven experience handling interior fit-out projects independently.
5. Experience in commercial, residential, hospitality, or corporate interior projects is desirable.
6. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, 3Ds Max, or Lumion.
7. Strong space planning and visualization skills.
8. Knowledge of interior materials, finishes, furniture, and construction methods.
9. Knowledge of building maintenance, facility renovations, and repair planning.
10. Excellent project coordination and organizational abilities.

12. Ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously.
