The Deputy Presiding Officer (DPO) assists the Presiding Officer in all assigned tasks and holds overall responsibility for the polling station. Key duties include demarcating and setting up the polling station, ensuring the safety and proper use of the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS), and verifying that KIEMS devices and power banks are fully charged and complete before deployment. The DPO supervises all polling activities, distributes materials to clerks, officially declares the start of polling, and initiates network connectivity on KIEMS at 5:30 AM. They are responsible for opening and closing the polling station's voting period on KIEMS, maintaining law and order, and ensuring a smooth flow of voters. The DPO must ensure all election results and logs are electronically transmitted to tallying centers, show tabulated results to agents before transmission, and supervise all election officials. Regular communication with the Constituency Returning Officer is required. The DPO also posts a copy of the election results at the polling station, delivers results to the Constituency Returning Officer, manages security, and ensures the safe retrieval and return of election materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Deputize the Presiding Officer in performing duties.

- Run the network connectivity tool on the KIEMS at 5:30 AM.
- Open and close the Polling Station Voting Period on the KIEMS.
- Ensure law and order is maintained at the polling station.
- Ensure smooth flow of voters in the queue.
- Ensure that all election results and logs are transmitted electronically to the Tallying centers.
- Show the agents the tabulated results before transmission.
- Supervise all election officials in the polling station.
- Update and communicate regularly with the Constituency Returning Officer.
- Post a copy of the election results at the polling station.
- Take the results to the Constituency Returning Officer.
- Be in charge of security at the polling station.
- Ensure safe retrieval and return of election materials to the Returning Officer.
Requirements
- Must be a Kenyan citizen of high integrity and non-partisan.
- Hold a Degree or Diploma certificate from a recognized institution.
- Be computer literate.
- Possess effective communication skills.
- Have good report writing skills.
- Ability to manage people, sensitive data, and materials.
- Possess skills in data computation.
- Must be available for the entire period of the exercise.
- Must be a resident in the County Assembly Ward.
