The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa is an International Baccalaureate World School, the first in the network, providing high-standard education to prepare students for leadership and service.

Job Description

The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, an International Baccalaureate World School and the first in the Aga Khan Academies network, seeks Academy Fellows. This role involves living in an apartment and acting as a Residential Parent within the student residential program, fostering community life and overseeing student and academic well-being. Fellows will engage with the Academy's learning and teaching environment, providing additional tutoring after school and during study times, particularly in Maths, Science, and English as an Additional Language for students from marginalized communities. A significant part of the role is developing and delivering the weekly Service-Learning Programme for Years 6-10, which includes planning activities, collaborating with community partners, and supporting student projects. Fellows also mentor a small group of students, guiding them academically and socially, and are expected to contribute actively to the co-curricular program through coaching, music lessons, or running clubs. Additionally, they will chaperone off-campus residential and day trips.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a Residential Parent, promoting community life and overseeing student residential and academic programs.
  2. Provide additional tutoring to students after school and during residential study, particularly in Maths, Science, and English as an Additional Language (approximately 10 hours/week).
  3. Develop and deliver the weekly Service-Learning Programme for Years 6-10, including planning, working with community partners, and supporting student projects (10 hours/week commitment).
  4. Guide residential students in their personal and academic goals and mentor a small group of students academically and socially.
  5. Actively contribute to the co-curricular program (e.g., coaching sports, providing music lessons, running clubs like gardening, cooking, debating, MUN, TedX, SAT preparation).
  6. Chaperone off-campus residential and day trips, including visits to places of worship.

Requirements

  1. Hold a Bachelor's Degree with excellent academic achievement and diverse interests.
  2. Possess a significant record of involvement in residential life, student leadership, music, athletics, and/or community service during university.
  3. Demonstrate a genuine interest in and commitment to the mission of the Aga Khan Academies to develop future leaders in the developing world.
  4. Have experience working with young people or mentoring peers.
  5. Be a proactive self-starter comfortable working autonomously.
  6. Show openness to new experiences, cultures, and learning.
