Job Description

The Locum Radiographer will be responsible for delivering a full range of radiological services, encompassing both routine and specialized CT and MRI examinations. Key aspects of the role include selecting and optimizing appropriate imaging protocols, preparing and monitoring patients throughout procedures, and safely administering contrast media while being prepared to manage any adverse reactions. The radiographer will also handle general radiography, maintain strict patient confidentiality, and adhere to all radiation protection and MRI safety standards. This position requires producing consistently high-quality diagnostic images, performing regular equipment checks, and actively participating in quality assurance initiatives and continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Independently perform routine and specialized CT and MRI examinations following approved protocols.
  2. Select and optimize appropriate imaging protocols, sequences, coils, and technical parameters to achieve diagnostic image quality.
  3. Conduct specialized examinations including CT angiography, trauma CT, MPR/MIP/3D reconstructions, advanced MRI studies, and contrast-enhanced examinations within the scope of practice.
  4. Prepare, screen, position, and monitor patients throughout examinations.
  5. Safely administer contrast media in accordance with approved protocols and respond appropriately to adverse reactions.
  6. Ensure accurate patient identification, examination selection, image labeling, and transmission to PACS/RIS.
  7. Competently perform routine, emergency, trauma, portable/mobile, and theatre radiography.
  8. Apply appropriate positioning, exposure, and image optimization techniques.
  9. Provide general radiography support based on departmental workload and operational requirements.
  10. Maintain patient dignity, privacy, confidentiality, and effective communication at all times.
  11. Apply ALARA principles and radiation protection measures during ionizing radiation examinations.
  12. Strictly adhere to MRI safety screening procedures and prevent unauthorized or unsafe items from entering the MRI environment.
  13. Recognize and appropriately respond to patient deterioration, contrast reactions, and imaging-related emergencies.
  14. Consistently produce high-quality diagnostic images while minimizing repeat examinations.
  15. Perform routine equipment checks and promptly report equipment faults or abnormalities.
  16. Participate in quality assurance, preventive maintenance, protocol optimization, and departmental audits.
  17. Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure timely image transfer and availability for reporting.
  18. Provide imaging services during assigned shifts, including emergency, night, weekend, and public holiday coverage where required.
  19. Comply with departmental SOPs, hospital policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
  20. Participate in CMEs, competency assessments, in-service training, and quality improvement initiatives.
  21. Work collaboratively with radiologists, clinicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  1. Hold a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography/Medical Imaging from a recognized institution.
  2. Possess a valid KENRA practicing license.
  3. Have a minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably within a hospital environment.
  4. Demonstrate a minimum total of 4 years of working experience.
  5. Experience in a Level 5 or 6 Hospital or Mission Hospital is preferred.
  6. Exhibit excellent knowledge of RIS/PACS systems.
  7. Be computer literate.
  8. Maintain strict confidentiality.
  9. Possess good customer care skills and experience.
  10. Be a good team player.
  11. Be able to work across all radiology sections.
  12. Demonstrate integrity, truthfulness, and capability of using both hands.
  13. Show willingness to learn advanced skills and develop in the career path.
  14. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
