Principal Software Developer

Britam Holdings Plc is a leading financial services group founded in 1965, offering a wide range of banking, financial, and insurance products. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, the company serves clients across the region.

This role involves leading a development team to design, build, test, deploy, and support digital channel and business software solutions, ensuring they are fit for purpose, secure, and maintainable. The Principal Software Developer will establish and enforce technical standards, coding practices, and architectural principles, providing hands-on technical leadership through code reviews, design reviews, problem-solving, and mentoring. The position also entails owning the technical quality and delivery reliability of the team's output, balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability, and serving as the primary technical escalation point for integration, performance, and production issues affecting digital channel and business systems.

1. Provide technical leadership for digital channel development projects, guiding architecture, integration design, and technology choices for web, mobile, and USSD platforms to ensure scalable solutions.
2. Monitor code consistency with established coding standards and best practices.
3. Adhere to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and ensure all development gate processes and deliverables are met.
4. Provide solutions architecture and detailed system designs, ensuring all developed solutions align with Britam’s enterprise architecture.
5. Assess developers' commitment to improving technical skills through certifications, training, or relevant courses.

1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
2. At least 4 years of experience in application development, including system customization and report designs.
3. At least 3 years of experience managing or leading development teams.
4. At least 4 years of experience working with middleware technologies such as Github, Azure Integration Services, or WSO
5. At least 4 years of experience with RDBMS & NoSQL databases.
6. At least 4 years of development experience in native mobile application development.
7. At least 4 years of experience with SPA frameworks like Angular, React, Flutter, or Vue JS.
8. Ability to provide technical leadership in innovation and delivery of software solutions.
9. Skills in formulating technology strategies and concepts.
10. Strong interpersonal, networking, and influencing skills.
11. Demonstrated ability to make decisions, initiate action, and lead/supervise teams.
