Sustainability Officer

The Sustainability Officer at Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) will be responsible for leading and coordinating the implementation and tracking of activities under the KDC Sustainability and Green Financing Strategies. This role involves assisting in the preparation of sustainability performance reports, dashboards, and presentations for management and the Board. The officer will support the collection, verification, and preparation of information required for various sustainability reporting and disclosures, including GRI Standards and IFRS S1/S2. Key duties also include monitoring progress against KDC’s sustainability KPIs, supporting stakeholder engagements, workshops, and awareness activities, and maintaining documentation for reporting, audits, and assurance. The role further entails supporting research on emerging ESG, climate finance, and regulatory requirements, assisting with climate-risk assessments, and tracking operational and financed emissions. The officer will also contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of KDC’s Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), mainstreaming IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, and assisting in environmental and social due diligence processes for investments.

1. Lead and coordinate the implementation and tracking of activities under KDC's Sustainability and Green Financing Strategies.
2. Assist in preparing sustainability performance reports, dashboards, advisories, and presentations for management and the Board.
3. Support the collection, verification, and preparation of information for sustainability reporting and disclosures, including GRI Standards and IFRS S1/S
4. Assist with monitoring progress against KDC’s sustainability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and implementation timelines.
5. Support stakeholder engagements, workshops, sustainability awareness activities, and meetings with development partners.
6. Assist in maintaining documentation and evidence required for sustainability reporting, audits, and assurance.
7. Support research on emerging ESG, climate finance, green finance, and sustainability regulatory requirements relevant to KDC.
8. Support climate-risk assessments, climate adaptation planning, and portfolio resilience analysis in line with evolving climate disclosure requirements.
9. Assist in tracking operational and financed emissions, portfolio carbon footprints, and climate-transition metrics.
10. Support the implementation and continuous improvement of KDC’s Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS).
11. Mainstream the adoption of IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 within the corporation.
12. Assist in environmental and social due diligence processes, including reviewing ESDD and ESIA reports, screening proposed investments, and monitoring Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) implementation.
13. Support the collection and maintenance of ESG, climate, environmental, and social data from KDC and its investment portfolio.
14. Assist in monitoring green portfolio classification, sustainable finance indicators, climate-risk screening, and climate-related investment opportunities.
15. Support the collection and analysis of portfolio ESG performance data and the preparation of periodic ESG monitoring reports.
16. Support environmental and social compliance monitoring of investee companies, including the implementation of ESAPs, ESIA commitments, and other sustainability requirements.
17. Assist in tracking KDC’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, energy, water, waste, and other operational sustainability indicators.
18. Support the implementation of internal initiatives by assisting sustainability champions and staff sensitization with a focus on waste management, energy efficiency, paper reduction, and sustainability communication.
19. Perform any other ESG and sustainability-related duties assigned by the Supervisor.

1. Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Development Studies, Finance, Economics, Business, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
2. 3–4 years of experience in sustainability reporting, ESG, environmental management, climate finance, development finance, or a related area.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of ESG, green finance, and sustainability reporting principles.
4. Familiarity with GRI, IFRS S1/S2, TCFD, climate risk, ESG due diligence, and sustainable finance taxonomies is an advantage.
5. Strong skills in data collection and analytics, research, report-writing, reporting, and coordination.
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
