Project Officer - MCH

CPN is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) promoting peace and social development in marginalized communities, founded in 2012. It mobilizes communities to realize their full potential and increase their conversion power, serving as the socio-economic development arm of the Kenya Mennonite Church Diocese of Nairobi. CPN addresses challenges like violence and deteriorating living standards by working with underprivileged communities to transform lives.

The Project Officer will be responsible for coordinating the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of CPN's community-based Maternal and Child Health (MCH) project. This involves working closely with various community health actors such as Care Group Volunteers, Community Health Promoters (CHPs), Community Health Assistants (CHAs), health facilities, and county health teams. The role focuses on strengthening community health initiatives, providing technical support for MCH services, facilitating health education, and ensuring effective data management and stakeholder coordination to improve health outcomes in urban informal settlements.

1. Coordinate implementation of MCH and community health activities in line with approved work plans, budgets, project objectives, and donor requirements.
2. Strengthen and monitor Care Groups and Care Group Volunteers as a core program strategy.
3. Support community mobilization and participation in program activities.
4. Facilitate training, mentorship, and supportive supervision for Care Group Volunteers, CHPs, CHAs, and other community-based actors.
5. Coordinate relevant community development activities that contribute to improved health and community wellbeing.
6. Provide appropriate technical support on maternal, newborn, and child health, including antenatal care, safe delivery, postnatal care, newborn care, immunization, and appropriate health-seeking practices.
7. Apply community nursing approaches to support health promotion, disease prevention, household follow-up, referrals, and continuity of care.
8. Facilitate community health education, screening, counselling, referrals, and follow-up for pregnant women, mothers, newborns, and young children.
9. Strengthen linkages between households, Care Groups, CHPs, CHAs, and health facilities, and follow up on referral completion.
10. Conduct regular field monitoring visits and track implementation against approved plans and indicators.
11. Collect, verify, and analyze program data, maintaining accurate records for beneficiaries, activities, referrals, and Care Groups.
12. Prepare timely and accurate narrative, technical, and donor reports.
13. Identify implementation challenges, community health concerns, and emerging needs, recommending appropriate actions.
14. Maintain effective coordination with County and Sub-County health teams, health facilities, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders.
15. Support responsible use of program resources and ensure compliance with CPN policies, procedures, and approved budgets.
16. Ensure program activities uphold safeguarding, confidentiality, dignity, inclusion, gender responsiveness, conflict sensitivity, and the principle of 'do no harm.'

1. A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Community Health, Community Health Nursing, Public Health, Community Development, or a related health or community development field from a recognized institution.
2. At least three years of relevant professional experience in maternal and child health, community health, community nursing, or development programming.
3. Demonstrated experience working with communities in urban informal settlements.
4. Experience working with CHPs, CHAs, community volunteers, health facilities, and government health structures.
5. Experience in community-based health promotion, disease prevention, household follow-up, referrals, and community mobilization.
6. Experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, data management, and reporting.
7. Good knowledge of maternal, newborn, and child health, and relevant Government of Kenya community health policies and guidelines.
8. Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and digital data/reporting platforms.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English and Kiswahili.
10. Ability to work independently, coordinate diverse stakeholders, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
