Senior Backend Engineer - Mobility

M-KOPA's mission is to make high-quality energy affordable to everyone. The company has connected over 400,000 homes in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to solar power, adding more than 550 new homes daily.

This role involves building advanced event-driven microservices that contribute to M-KOPA's mission of digital and financial inclusion across Africa. Engineers are expected to take full ownership of their solutions, from initial architectural design through to production monitoring, integrating cutting-edge .NET development with a purpose-driven engineering approach. 1. Develop and build sophisticated event-driven microservices.
2. Take end-to-end ownership of solutions, from architectural decisions to production monitoring.
3. Integrate cutting-edge .NET development with purpose-driven engineering goals.
4. Collaborate effectively within engineering teams.
5. Ensure high-quality output in all development activities.
6. Implement and maintain observability and monitoring for systems.
7. Conduct automated testing across all development and production environments.

3. Strong emphasis on testing and observability as core development principles.
4. Proficient in C# .NET development.
5. Demonstrated experience with event-driven systems, utilizing technologies like Service Bus, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
6. Proven experience with microservices architecture.
7. Hands-on experience with Azure or other major cloud providers such as AWS or GCP.
8. Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools, including Kubernetes and Docker.
9. Experience using observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
10. Expertise in software testing and deployment strategies.
11. A strong DevOps culture mindset.
12. Experience with AI coding tools, such as Claude Code or similar.
