Fisheries Officer

The Nakuru County Government is seeking a dedicated Fisheries Officer to contribute to the sustainable management and development of fisheries resources. This role involves the collection, compilation, and analysis of statistical data from field operations, followed by the preparation of detailed reports. The officer will play a crucial part in monitoring, controlling, and surveilling fisheries resources to ensure compliance and conservation. Additionally, the role includes undertaking various fisheries extension activities, maintaining fish ponds at farms and hatcheries, and conducting inspections of fish and handling facilities at landing sites, markets, and farms. The officer will also assist in promoting fish marketing strategies and value addition initiatives to support the local fishing industry.

1. Receive and compile fisheries statistical data from field officers.
2. Analyze fisheries data and prepare comprehensive reports.
3. Assist in the monitoring, control, and surveillance of fisheries resources.
4. Conduct fisheries extension activities.
5. Maintain ponds at fish farms and hatcheries.
6. Inspect fish and fish handling facilities at landing sites, markets, and farms.
7. Support the promotion of fish marketing and value addition initiatives.

1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, Zoology, Aquatic Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, Physical Science, Chemistry, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
2. Possess a Certificate in Computer application skills from a recognized institution.
3. Have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
