Job Description
The Human Resource Manager for Employee Relations at USIU Africa will report to the Director of Human Resources, offering comprehensive operational HR support to both academic and non-academic units. This critical role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to develop and implement HR initiatives that align with the university's strategic goals. The manager will ensure adherence to relevant labor laws and university policies, while actively promoting a positive and productive work environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in human resources, particularly in employee relations, with a focus on legal compliance and fostering positive workplace dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert HR guidance and support to various university departments, schools, and projects on employee-related issues.
- Facilitate processes such as recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and talent development.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty and staff to understand their HR requirements.
- Oversee the administration of HR processes including recruitment, payroll, benefits, and employee data management.
- Ensure strict adherence to labor laws, regulations, and university policies and procedures.
- Design and implement initiatives, in collaboration with the HR Director, to boost employee engagement, motivation, and retention.
- Assist the HR Director in developing and delivering training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
- Serve as the main contact for employee relations issues, offering timely guidance and support to staff and managers.
- Resolve employee concerns, conflicts, and disputes through effective mediation and negotiation.
- Conduct investigations and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance with policies and legal regulations.
- Ensure the university's compliance with all relevant labor laws, state statutes, and internal policies.
- Participate in the Occupational Safety, Health & Environment Committee to ensure continuous safety assessment and compliance.
- Collaborate with the HR Director to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Disseminate HR-related communications to employees via various channels.
- Work with the HR Director and university communication teams to create HR-focused content.
- Undertake special projects as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Legal, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Membership in the Institute of Human Resource Management (CHRP(K)).
- Minimum of five years of experience in human resources, with proven experience as an Employee Relations Specialist or similar role.
- Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in HR software systems and information systems/database management.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity and professionalism.
- Strong employee relations and conflict resolution capabilities.
- Excellent mediation and negotiation skills.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
