Assistant Underwriter

This Assistant Underwriter position at CIC Insurance Group Plc focuses on supporting the growth and integration of Group Life insurance business. The role involves accurately preparing quotations, meticulously analyzing risk information, and applying established pricing and underwriting guidelines. Additionally, the successful candidate will ensure adherence to reinsurance requirements and compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, facilitating a smooth and efficient onboarding process for new clients.

1. Contribute to business development by generating timely and precise Group Life quotations for sales teams, intermediaries, and direct clients.
2. Utilize approved pricing models, rates, underwriting guidelines, delegated authority, and reinsurance treaty stipulations when formulating quotations.
3. Examine member data, benefit structures, claims history, and other relevant risk details to inform appropriate pricing and quotation terms.
4. Consult with Actuarial, Underwriting leadership, and Senior Management regarding pricing exceptions, special conditions, and quotations that fall outside standard parameters, securing necessary approvals prior to issuance.
5. Verify that proposed terms align with reinsurance agreements, including Free Cover Limits, retention limits, facultative requirements, and reinsurer conditions.
6. Manage the onboarding of new business by reviewing proposal documents, member schedules, premium details, and supporting documentation.
7. Perform KYC/AML screening for new schemes and intermediaries, escalating any exceptions and ensuring compliance clearance before client onboarding.
8. Establish and maintain comprehensive new-business files on the designated platform before transferring them to the main Underwriting team.
9. Conduct educational sessions, client presentations, and intermediary engagements to explain Group Life benefits, onboarding procedures, and CIC Life’s value proposition.
10. Produce reports on quotations, production, conversion rates, turnaround times, and new business, highlighting key trends, identified gaps, and outstanding requirements.
11. Maintain accurate records for quotations, approvals, KYC/AML, reinsurance, and onboarding, ensuring full compliance with internal controls, data protection, and regulatory standards.

1. Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, BCOM Insurance, or Statistics.
2. Demonstrate progress towards completing a Diploma in Insurance.
3. Possess a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience, specifically in managing Group Life Schemes.
4. Exhibit basic knowledge of regulations stipulated by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA).
5. Strong analytical capabilities.
6. Exceptional attention to detail.
7. A keen interest in technology, including emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
8. Effective interpersonal communication skills.
9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications.
10. Basic understanding of automation principles.
