Radiology Manager

The Radiology Manager will provide daily operational leadership and management for the Radiology Department, ensuring safe, timely, patient-centered, and high-quality diagnostic imaging services. This role involves coordinating the workforce, managing service delivery, optimizing equipment and resource utilization, maintaining quality and safety systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, monitoring performance, and driving continuous improvement. The manager will also support the Head of Department in achieving the department's clinical, operational, and strategic goals.

1. Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily radiology operations across all modalities and service areas to ensure safe patient flow, appropriate staffing, efficient imaging capacity utilization, and service continuity.
2. Manage duty rosters, allocate staff based on workload and competency, monitor attendance and leave, support recruitment and onboarding, and address operational performance issues in line with hospital policy.
3. Implement, audit, and continuously improve imaging protocols, quality assurance, and quality control processes; investigate incidents, near misses, complaints, and service failures, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
4. Monitor equipment performance, uptime, and preventive maintenance; coordinate fault reporting, service visits, and contingency arrangements; contribute to equipment replacement planning, procurement specifications, and acceptance processes.
5. Monitor departmental workload, waiting times, examination completion, reporting workflow, and turnaround-time indicators; identify bottlenecks and implement corrective operational measures in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
6. Ensure departmental policies, SOPs, imaging protocols, operational records, audits, mandatory registers, and statistical records are accurate, current, approved, and maintained under document-control requirements.
7. Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality, data-protection requirements, appropriate access to patient information, and hospital accreditation standards.
8. Coordinate the development, review, implementation, and updating of departmental SOPs, imaging protocols, work instructions, and operational guidelines, maintaining records of approval, revision, and staff communication.
9. Support implementation of departmental radiation-safety requirements and collaborate with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to ensure staff compliance and appropriate escalation of concerns.
10. Support annual budgeting and cost control; monitor consumables, contrast media, stock levels, overtime, and other departmental resources, ensuring appropriate utilization and accountability.
11. Identify training needs, coordinate induction and competency assessment, support CPD and in-service education, and promote a culture of professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning.
12. Liaise with various hospital departments (HoD, radiologists, nursing, IT, biomedical engineering, procurement, finance) to resolve operational issues and improve patient pathways.
13. Support effective use and governance of radiology information systems, PACS/reporting workflows, and departmental digital tools; participate in service redesign, automation, data-quality, and improvement projects.
14. Support implementation of new imaging services, equipment, workflows, and departmental systems, including staff readiness, documentation, training, operational rollout, and post-implementation review.
15. Act as the operational focal point, communicate priorities clearly, manage day-to-day escalations, and promptly refer clinical, medico-legal, regulatory, financial, or strategic matters requiring HoD authority.

1. Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Radiography and Medical Imaging from a recognized institution; a relevant Bachelor’s degree is preferred for this managerial role.
2. Postgraduate qualification or formal training in healthcare management, leadership, quality management, or a related field is an added advantage.
3. Previous experience working within a JCI-accredited hospital or participation in JCI accreditation, survey preparation, or quality-improvement activities is an added advantage.
4. Minimum of 5 years of relevant radiology/imaging experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory, team-lead, or management role, preferably within a hospital environment.
5. Current professional registration/licensure and good standing with applicable Kenyan regulatory requirements for the individual’s professional scope.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety, data protection, quality management, and healthcare accreditation requirements, with working awareness of radiation safety.
