Job Description

The Biomedical Engineer will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of medical equipment within the hospital. This includes designing, developing, and rigorously testing new medical devices to ensure they comply with safety and performance regulations. The role also involves modifying existing equipment to enhance its functionality and efficiency, as well as installing, calibrating, and performing routine maintenance to guarantee optimal performance and reliability. The engineer will provide essential technical support and training to healthcare staff on the proper use and upkeep of medical equipment. Collaboration with healthcare professionals will be key to identifying and resolving equipment-related issues, while also evaluating new technologies for potential integration. Developing and implementing quality assurance procedures to meet regulatory standards, managing equipment inventory, and maintaining service records are also critical aspects of this role. The Biomedical Engineer will work with interdisciplinary teams to optimize equipment utilization and patient care, staying current with advancements in biomedical engineering through continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, and test medical equipment and devices to meet safety and performance standards.
  2. Modify and customize existing medical equipment to improve functionality and efficiency.
  3. Install, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment for optimal performance and reliability.
  4. Provide technical support and training to healthcare personnel on equipment use and maintenance.
  5. Conduct research and collaborate with healthcare professionals to address equipment-related problems.
  6. Evaluate new technologies and equipment for potential integration into healthcare facilities.
  7. Develop and implement quality assurance procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  8. Manage and document equipment inventory, including maintenance schedules and service records.
  9. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize equipment utilization and patient care.
  10. Stay informed about advancements in biomedical engineering and healthcare technology through continuous learning.
  11. Perform any other assigned duties.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
  2. Membership with AMEK – Association of Medical Engineers.
  3. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a biomedical or related field.
