Job Description
The Nurse will be responsible for receiving patients at the clinic after registration, examining them, and making an assessment, prioritizing severely sick or injured individuals. This includes accurately taking and recording vital signs, ensuring patient files are updated while maintaining data integrity and confidentiality, and directing patients to the appropriate healthcare provider or service based on their needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform triage duties, accurately taking and recording patient vital signs, and referring them for further treatment.
- Receive and assess patients at the clinic, prioritizing those severely sick or injured.
- Ensure accurate and confidential updating of patient files and records.
- Maintain an up-to-date emergency tray and ensure availability of medical supplies at all service points.
- Effectively deliver both Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and youth-friendly services.
- Prepare and timely submit required periodic medical reports.
- Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of the admission/triage area, adhering to infection control and safety policies.
- Promptly report clinical and non-clinical unusual findings or incidents to the Supervisor and KHWC Administrator.
- Ensure proper and cost-effective use of resources, documenting material and consumable usage for accurate billing and stock management.
- Care for equipment through proper cleaning, storage, shift checks, and timely reporting/follow-up of non-functional equipment.
- Develop written care plans based on patient needs, monitoring and evaluating intervention effectiveness.
- Actively participate in regular continuous medical education (CMEs).
- Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses, and promptly report adverse reactions.
- Uphold Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) universal principles and waste management guidelines.
- Identify and address patient and youth education needs, conducting primary healthcare programs to promote healthy living.
- Provide health education to patients and Kakenya students.
- Participate in program outreach activities as assigned.
- Perform minor medical procedures such as wound cleaning, dressing, stitching, and nebulization.
- Conduct regular instrument processing and sterilization of medical equipment.
- Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Community Health Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- A Diploma in Counseling from a recognized institution is an added advantage.
- Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a busy health facility.
- Experience in a youth-friendly facility is an added advantage.
- Very good knowledge of nursing, medical care, and counseling standards and procedures.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
- Demonstrated evidence-based knowledge of current practices in general nursing in an outpatient setup.
- Ability to multi-task effectively.
- Must be compassionate, possess integrity, and respect values.
- Ability to pay attention to detail and report accurately.
- Self-driven, diligent, honest, disciplined, and responsible individual.
- Pleasant demeanor with a heart to serve and genuine love for the community.
- Ability to offer quality services consistently to all patients and a passion for patient well-being.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer literacy or knowledge.
- Ability to work long hours, including late evenings, emergency calls at night, and weekends.
