Nursing Services and Quality Improvement Lead

Pearl Hospital provides 24/7 Level 4 healthcare services, encompassing outpatient and inpatient care, advanced imaging, maternity, oncology, fertility, surgical, and wellness treatments. The hospital operates on principles emphasizing quality, compassion, and reliable service for all patients.

The Nursing Services and Quality Improvement Lead will be responsible for strengthening nursing operations and driving quality improvement across Pearl Hospital. This pivotal role involves working closely with the Director of Clinical Services and various departmental heads to enhance patient safety protocols, uphold clinical standards, ensure staff accountability, and prepare the hospital for accreditation processes. The successful candidate will coordinate daily nursing activities, monitor performance, and implement strategies to improve overall patient care and service delivery.

1. Oversee and coordinate daily nursing operations across all clinical areas, including outpatient, inpatient, maternity, and theatre services.
2. Enhance nursing supervision practices, improve shift handovers, optimize duty allocation, ensure accurate clinical documentation, and maintain continuity of patient care.
3. Monitor nursing staff performance, assess competencies, determine staffing requirements, and ensure adherence to established clinical standards.
4. Organize and conduct clinical audits, review patient safety incidents, investigate occurrences, and implement corrective actions.
5. Develop, track, and analyze quality indicators related to patient safety, infection prevention, medication management, documentation accuracy, patient experience, and service delivery.
6. Lead the execution of the hospital’s quality improvement plan and manage preparations for SafeCare assessment and accreditation.
7. Assist departments in developing, implementing, and regularly reviewing policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and clinical protocols.
8. Coordinate activities of the quality and patient safety committees, ensuring follow-up on agreed actions until completion.
9. Provide training, mentorship, and support to clinical staff to improve their performance, foster accountability, and promote patient-centered care.
10. Prepare comprehensive monthly reports detailing nursing performance, quality indicators, incidents, identified risks, and implemented improvement actions.

1. Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized institution.
2. Possess current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya and a valid practicing license.
3. Have a minimum of five years of nursing experience, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity such as ward in-charge, nursing supervisor, or deputy matron.
4. Demonstrate proven experience in leading a measurable clinical or operational quality improvement initiative.
5. Exhibit practical experience in conducting clinical audits, investigating incidents, implementing infection prevention measures, overseeing SOP implementation, and assessing staff competencies.
6. Possess strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and performance management skills.
7. Be proficient in using data, Excel, and routine reports to identify gaps and monitor improvement progress.
8. Experience with SafeCare, KQMH, ISO, hospital accreditation, or regulatory inspections is considered an advantage.
9. Postgraduate training in healthcare management, quality improvement, or patient safety is an added advantage.
