Job Description
The Sales Representative will be responsible for driving the adoption of Network International's payment solutions across Kenya. This involves identifying potential merchants, understanding their current payment processes, and offering appropriate solutions to help them increase customer conversions and scale their businesses effectively. The role covers the entire sales cycle, from prospecting and solution discovery to commercial negotiation, merchant onboarding, activation, and initial relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and convert a high-quality sales pipeline by prospecting, qualifying, and acquiring new merchants through various channels like outbound activities, referrals, partnerships, market events, and digital leads.
- Create territory and sector plans that prioritize attractive online payment opportunities in segments such as retail, travel, hospitality, services, education, and digital platforms.
- Conduct structured discovery conversations to understand each merchant's business model, checkout journey, payment volumes, customer base, operational constraints, and growth ambitions.
- Maintain accurate pipeline hygiene in the CRM, ensuring clear next steps, realistic close dates, and precise sales forecasts.
- Present Network International's payment capabilities using clear commercial language, linking features to benefits like conversion, reach, customer experience, operational efficiency, and revenue growth.
- Develop compelling proposals and business cases that outline recommended solutions, commercial structures, implementation needs, and expected merchant value.
- Lead pricing and commercial negotiations within approved parameters, balancing competitiveness, merchant value, risk, and sustainable revenue.
- Coordinate demonstrations and solution discussions with specialist teams including Product, Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Finance as needed.
- Guide merchants through application, KYC, and due-diligence requirements, ensuring complete and accurate submissions are processed promptly.
- Collaborate with implementation and technical teams to coordinate integration, testing, readiness, and go-live activities.
- Maintain clear communication during onboarding, quickly resolve blockers, and set realistic expectations regarding dependencies and timelines.
- Provide post-go-live support for activation, initial transactions, and a smooth handover to the appropriate relationship management model.
- Achieve agreed sales, revenue, activation, and payment-volume goals, focusing on quality merchants capable of transacting and growing.
- Identify opportunities to enhance merchant value through relevant cross-sell and upsell conversations.
- Monitor competitor activity, merchant feedback, sector trends, and market needs, converting insights into practical recommendations for Sales, Product, and Marketing.
- Professionally represent the company at client meetings, roadshows, conferences, exhibitions, and partner events.
Requirements
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Commerce, Finance, Technology, or a related field.
- Possess at least 3 years of successful B2B sales or business development experience, preferably in payments, fintech, banking, e-commerce, SaaS, or merchant services.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of prospecting, building pipelines, and closing new business against individual commercial targets.
- Have experience managing a consultative sales cycle, including discovery, proposal development, negotiation, onboarding, and stakeholder coordination.
- Possess working knowledge of digital commerce and online payment journeys, including how merchants accept card, mobile, and alternative payment methods.
- Be confident in using a CRM system to manage opportunities, activities, forecasts, and reporting.
- Have strong written and spoken English proficiency, with working proficiency in Swahili.
- Have exposure to merchant onboarding, KYC/AML requirements, pricing concepts, and cross-functional implementation processes.
- Possess an established network among Kenyan e-commerce merchants, digital businesses, platforms, or relevant commercial ecosystems.
