About the Company

Tenakata is a business technology platform designed to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Africa. It helps them manage financial records, gain financial literacy through business support accelerators, and share transactional information with financial institutions to facilitate credit access for business growth.

Job Description

Tenakata is a business technology platform that supports MSMEs across Africa by enabling them to maintain financial records, improve financial literacy through business accelerators, and share their transactional data with financial institutions. This process aims to help MSMEs secure credit for business expansion. The Collections Officer's primary role is to ensure proper management of outstanding debts, thereby reducing credit losses and maximizing recovery rates from clients. This responsibility extends to loans disbursed internally by Tenakata and those disbursed by partner financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure targets are met for minimizing credit losses and maximizing recoveries.
  2. Provide timely feedback to management and business strategists regarding customer payment behavior.
  3. Contact defaulting customers through calls or visits to negotiate settlements.
  4. Work closely with Business Development Officers (BDOs) on their bad debt portfolios.
  5. Prepare, analyze, and submit regular reports concerning overdue accounts, recovery plans, and risk exposures.
  6. Identify, assess, and evaluate risk areas in recovery processes and make appropriate recommendations.
  7. Implement data clean-up procedures and corresponding changes as necessary to ensure accurate and up-to-date credit data for MSMEs.
  8. Ensure the recovery of outstanding loan amounts and handle the process of realizing securities procedurally to avoid delays from litigation, while respecting defaulting clients' rights to prevent potential legal or adverse publicity.
  9. Approve loans within the set limit and facilitate further approval by the Branch Manager for loans exceeding this limit.
  10. Review capacity needs, supervise, and initiate training requirements for personnel within the credit department.
  11. Perform other tasks and duties as designated by the Company.

Requirements

  1. Possess a good level of general education, such as a Diploma or Degree.
  2. Be computer literate.
  3. Have an educational background in sales or marketing.
  4. Experience in a financial institution, particularly dealing with customers at the bottom of the pyramid, is an added advantage.
  5. Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in debt recoveries.
