Job Description

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will be responsible for leading the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's environmental management system and workplace safety initiatives. This involves ensuring the organization adheres to all relevant environmental and occupational safety standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Implement and maintain environmental, health, and safety policies, standard operating procedures, and emergency response plans.
  2. Ensure full compliance with environmental and occupational safety legislation, ISO 14001:2015 standards, and internal company policies.
  3. Conduct regular environmental and safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and thorough incident investigations.
  4. Manage environmental permits, licenses, regulatory reporting, and maintain effective relationships with agencies like NEMA and DOSH.
  5. Oversee pharmaceutical waste management, chemical safety protocols, environmental monitoring, and other compliance activities.
  6. Coordinate EHS training programs and actively promote employee awareness regarding environmental and workplace safety.
  7. Monitor safety infrastructure, ensure compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage, oversee contractor safety, and manage emergency preparedness systems.
  8. Track key performance indicators for environmental and safety performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health or Environmental Management.
  3. A minimum of three years of practical experience in an EHS role.
  4. Demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems.
  5. Strong understanding of Kenyan environmental and occupational health & safety legislation.
  6. NEBOSH IGC/Diploma and ISO 14001:2015 Internal Auditor training are advantageous.
  7. Experience within a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  8. Excellent communication, training, and presentation abilities.
  9. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
  10. High attention to detail and a strong focus on regulatory compliance.
  11. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and work independently.
  12. Strong project management and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  13. Crisis management skills for environmental and safety emergencies.
