Job Description
The ICT Data Scientist & AI Developer will be a key player in driving the organization's data and artificial intelligence strategy. This position requires a professional who can oversee the entire lifecycle of data solutions, from pipeline design and maintenance to the deployment and monitoring of machine learning models. The role emphasizes ensuring data quality, supporting business intelligence, and collaborating with various departments to deliver impactful analytical insights and automated workflows. Compliance with data security and ethical AI standards is also a critical aspect of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain scalable data pipelines using technologies like Python, SQL, Spark, and Microsoft Fabric.
- Oversee data ingestion, transformation processes, and ensure high data quality.
- Guarantee the reliability and performance of reporting datasets and data prepared for machine learning.
- Support the optimization and value extraction from Britam’s Master Data Management (MDM) platform.
- Review and approve code and pipeline configurations developed by junior team members.
- Lead the development and deployment of machine learning use cases, such as claims risk assessment, lapse prediction, and fraud detection.
- Provide guidance to data stewards on data preparation and experimentation.
- Convert machine learning models into APIs and facilitate their integration into business systems.
- Monitor the performance of deployed models and recommend recalibration as necessary.
- Oversee the development of dashboards using tools like Power BI, ensuring alignment with business needs.
- Provide predictive analysis support to Finance, Actuarial, Risk, and Product teams.
- Validate insights before their release to business stakeholders.
- Drive the automation of recurring reports and manual workflows.
- Ensure adherence to data security, privacy, and ethical AI standards.
- Collaborate with Risk & Compliance teams on data protection implementation.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for audit and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- University degree in actuarial science, statistics, engineering, mathematics, physics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical foundation.
- 2-4 years of experience in a similar data science or AI development position.
- Proven experience in creating and utilizing advanced machine learning algorithms and statistical methods, including regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, and decision trees.
- Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and user experience.
- Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, with a focus on application quality, performance, and security.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers.
- Demonstrated expertise in machine learning algorithms and Microsoft Fabric.
- Proficient knowledge of statistical techniques.
- Proficient knowledge of the insurance industry in Kenya.
- Knowledge of reinsurance arrangements and structures.
- Knowledge of statistical packages or programming languages such as SAS or Visual Basic.
- Experience with database management systems.
