Job Description

The Access Network Engineer will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of the broadband access network, focusing on xPON/FTTx technologies. This includes developing capacity plans, designing network solutions, integrating systems, managing technology roadmaps, and ensuring network readiness and seamless service delivery. The role also involves monitoring performance, resolving issues, evaluating new solutions, and conducting field visits to maintain infrastructure quality.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement xPON/FTTx network capacity plans and forecasts to support business growth and service expansion.
  2. Design and engineer xPON/FTTx access network solutions, including technical designs, specifications, Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and engineering documentation.
  3. Collaborate with Systems and OSS/BSS teams for OLT, BNG/BRAS, and ACS platform integration to enable seamless broadband service provisioning.
  4. Develop and maintain the xPON/FTTx technology roadmap, managing hardware/software lifecycles, upgrades, and migrations.
  5. Plan OLT uplink capacity and coordinate network readiness with IP, Transmission, and Operations teams for smooth service delivery.
  6. Provide technical support during network deployment, commissioning, integration, migration, and acceptance testing to ensure compliance with standards.
  7. Monitor, analyze, and optimize network performance, capacity utilization, availability, and service quality, implementing improvement initiatives.
  8. Investigate and resolve network performance, capacity, interoperability, and service-related issues, conducting root cause analysis and supporting fault resolution.
  9. Plan, coordinate, and evaluate Proof of Concepts (PoCs), technology trials, and new solutions to support innovation and network evolution.
  10. Conduct field visits to implement approved Plans of Action (PoAs), support technical investigations, validate network performance, and ensure infrastructure quality.
  11. Participate in the 24/7 Planning & Engineering on-call roster, provide technical leadership during major network incidents, and prepare engineering reports.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  2. Fiber Optic Network Design Certification (Project Management certification is an advantage).
  3. CCNA/CCNP certification.
  4. Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience designing and supporting xPON/FTTx networks.
  5. Experience with OLT/ONT platforms, access network technologies, and broadband service delivery.
  6. Experience working with telecom infrastructure projects and multi-vendor environments.
