Head of Digital Engineering

Jubilee Insurance, founded in 1937, is an insurance provider based in Nairobi, Kenya. Jhub SEZ Limited, an entity within the group, is seeking a Head of Digital Engineering.

The Head of Digital Engineering will be responsible for providing strategic leadership across various technical domains including software engineering, development, robotic process automation (RPA), core platform engineering, and technical support. This role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of digital solutions, from design and development to deployment, enhancement, and retirement, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and reliable.

1. Develop and implement the digital engineering strategy, aligning it with business and technology goals.
2. Provide strategic guidance for engineering and technology capabilities to ensure integrated operations.
3. Lead the design, development, and support of secure, scalable digital products and solutions.
4. Define technology roadmaps for digital platforms.
5. Promote the adoption of new technologies, automation, and modern engineering practices.
6. Establish engineering standards, architectural principles, and quality controls.
7. Manage the complete lifecycle of digital solutions, from development to retirement.
8. Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, system performance, and resilience.
9. Identify and pursue opportunities to commercialize digital products and services.
10. Contribute to product pricing, business cases, and investment decisions.
11. Monitor financial performance, including revenue, costs, and profitability, for the digital engineering portfolio.
12. Ensure adherence to technology, cybersecurity, data protection, and regulatory requirements.
13. Manage technology risks, vulnerabilities, and technical debt.
14. Cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the engineering team.
15. Provide leadership, coaching, and talent development for the Digital Engineering function.
16. Represent Digital Engineering in senior management and strategic discussions.

1. Minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering, digital technology, or technology transformation, with significant leadership experience.
2. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
3. A Master’s degree in Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
4. Relevant professional certifications in technology, software engineering, cloud computing, DevOps, or project management are a plus.
5. Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams, developing and executing technology strategies, and scaling digital products or platforms.
6. Proven ability to manage complex technology environments, budgets, vendors, and strategic partnerships.
7. Exposure to technology-enabled commercial initiatives and engagement with senior stakeholders.
