Job Description

Main purpose of the job: The holder of this position will ensure that the client and Firm’s expectations are met by delivering high quality services and maintaining high utilization levels.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Delivering client services according to relevant Deloitte standards, policies and ethical principles;
  2. Supporting on delivery of designated customs and excise duty engagements/projects, and manage the implementation of agreed deliverables;
  3. Assisting in the preparation of proposals/tenders and presentations;
  4. Generating innovative solutions on projects/engagements in collaboration with team members to enhance/renew service offerings to clients;
  5. Assisting in developing knowledge of current tax matters across the tax function;
  6. Collecting, assimilating and analysing relevant data using standard tools and data visualizations to help surface insights and solutions;
  7. Supporting in the development of new indirect tax products and market new products;
  8. Carrying out tax risk and opportunities reviews;
  9. Preparation of tax opinions, tax advice and proposals;
  10. Building and maintaining relationships with the clients and the Kenya Revenue Authority;
  11. Liaising with Kenya Revenue Authority on various tax and policy matters;
  12. Assisting clients resolve KRA audits;
  13. Preparing objections and appeals to KRA assessments;
  14. Preparing tax publications for clients and writing articles on relevant tax matters; and
  15. Actively building business relationships that generate leads.

Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Commerce/Law from a recognised institution.
  2. Professional accounting qualification.
  3. 4 to 5 years relevant taxation experience.
  4. Technical expertise in customs and excise duty matters.
  5. Good knowledge of international and national taxation principles.
  6. Knowledge of VAT matters will be an added advantage.
  7. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  8. Effective interpersonal and relationship building/people management skills.
  9. Good mentorship and coaching ability with desire to develop self and others.
  10. Adaptable, managing change and ambiguity with ease.
  11. Sound problem solving ability.
  12. Organizational, supervisory and time management.
  13. Good networking skills.
  14. Sound industry and business knowledge.
  15. Demonstrated leadership skills.
  16. Excellent report writing skills.
  17. Good financial knowledge.
