Job Description
The Manager, Global Procurement Phones at GiveDirectly is responsible for the entire phone procurement lifecycle, from forecasting demand with program teams to managing supplier relationships and ensuring the quality and timely delivery of devices. This role involves strategic coordination across various countries, addressing issues like damaged shipments or delays, and maintaining optimal inventory levels to support GiveDirectly's cash transfer operations. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager, Global Supply Chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Programs and country Operations & Procurement Managers (OPMs) to develop and maintain rolling phone demand forecasts for each country and model.
- Translate demand forecasts into precise purchase timelines to prevent both stockouts and excess inventory.
- Manage all supplier communications for feature phones and smartphones.
- Lead RFQ/RFP processes to onboard new suppliers when necessary, working closely with country procurement teams.
- Monitor supplier performance and proactively resolve issues related to quality, pricing, or reliability directly with vendors.
- Process and track purchase orders from initial request through final delivery.
- Liaise with the Finance department regarding vendor payments, invoice discrepancies, and budget tracking.
- Handle returns, warranty claims, and resolution of defective devices with suppliers.
- Track and report on On-Time In-Full (OTIF) delivery, cost savings, and Program satisfaction regularly.
- Identify and flag potential risks such as price increases, supply shortages, or customs delays before they impact delivery schedules.
- Work with the Phone Inventory System Lead and Global Supply Chain to enhance inventory visibility as new tools are implemented.
Requirements
- Strong alignment with GiveDirectly's values and demonstrated core competencies including emotional intelligence, problem-solving, project management, follow-through, and fostering inclusivity.
- Candidates with personal or professional experience in low-income and/or historically marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Proficiency in English is required.
- A Bachelor's Degree is essential.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or vendor/category management, with a strong preference for experience in electronics, telecom, or hardware sourcing.
- Proven experience with demand forecasting and managing purchase orders.
- Excellent negotiation skills and a successful history of managing supplier relationships, including resolving commercial disputes like returns and warranty claims.
- Ability to coordinate effectively across multiple African countries, different time zones, and diverse stakeholder groups such as Programs, Finance, and country OPMs.
