The Actuarial and Pricing Analyst will be responsible for preparing corporate medical quotations and renewal terms, utilizing internal pricing models, and building and maintaining rate tables. This role involves analyzing claims experience, exposure, and benefit changes to inform renewal pricing, as well as supporting tender pricing, including capitation models. The analyst will monitor loss ratios, claims frequency, and severity across schemes, conducting experience reviews and anti-selection analysis. Key responsibilities also include producing scheme performance reviews, maintaining dashboards on key metrics, and preparing reports for management and clients. The role requires extracting, cleaning, and structuring data from various systems, supporting the development and improvement of pricing and analytics platforms, and driving process innovation, including the use of AI. The analyst will automate recurring tasks, support data integrations, and collaborate with Underwriting, Business Processing, Sales, and Retention teams to resolve queries and provide technical input for product development.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare corporate medical quotations and renewal terms using internal pricing models.
- Build and maintain rate tables, applying appropriate loadings and statutory gross-ups.
- Analyze claims experience, exposure, and benefit changes to inform renewal pricing.
- Support tender pricing, including capitation models.
- Apply underwriting and discount rules, flag breaches, and route approvals correctly.
- Monitor loss ratios, claims frequency, and severity across schemes, flagging adverse experience early.
- Carry out experience reviews, anti-selection analysis, and benefit sensitivity testing.
- Build provider and scheme claims intelligence, including episode-of-care analysis and peer benchmarking.
- Reconcile claims data across multiple sources and funding arrangements.
- Produce scheme performance reviews, renewal readiness packs, and ad hoc reports.
- Maintain dashboards on quote volumes, premiums, loss ratios, and pipeline.
- Prepare decision-ready decks and written advisories for management and clients.
- Extract, clean, and structure data from claims, membership, and finance systems.
- Support development, testing, and improvement of the department’s pricing and analytics platform.
- Drive process innovation, including the use of AI to enhance pricing and analytics workflows and surface deeper insight.
- Automate recurring pricing and reporting tasks.
- Support data integrations across claims and administration systems.
- Support the international medical partner portfolio alongside core local functions.
- Work with Underwriting, Business Processing, Sales, and Retention to resolve pricing and data queries.
- Provide costing and technical input to product development.
- Advise the manager on anomalies, risks, and areas for improvement.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Hold a degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Possess at least 5 years of experience in health or medical insurance pricing and analytics.
- Demonstrate solid progress in professional actuarial examinations (IFoA, SOA, or equivalent).
- Have a strong understanding of medical insurance products, underwriting, and claims.
- Show proven pricing and experience-analysis work in a live insurance environment.
- Be proficient in advanced Excel and actuarial or financial modeling.
- Have skills in SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
- Experience with Python or R for analytics and automation is an added advantage.
- Be skilled in data visualization and dashboarding (Power BI or similar).
- Be comfortable handling large claims and membership datasets.
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Exhibit high attention to detail and technical accuracy.
- Have clear report writing and presentation skills.
- Demonstrate sound commercial judgment.
- Be able to work well under pressure and to tight turnaround times.
