Job Description

The Program Officer will be responsible for advancing the educational and implementation research agenda of the PEP MTCs program, while also leading advocacy efforts at the institutional level. This role is crucial for enhancing research processes, promoting innovative teaching methodologies, and securing increased investment for cardiometabolic disease (CMD) education and research across CHAK Medical Training Colleges.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support the design and execution of educational and implementation research projects focused on cardiometabolic diseases (CMD).
  2. Facilitate faculty and student participation in research activities, ensuring an inclusive and gender-responsive approach.
  3. Contribute to documenting and sharing research outcomes to inform institutional teaching policies and national CMD strategies.
  4. Spearhead advocacy initiatives within CHAK Medical Training Colleges to encourage the adoption of innovative teaching methods, including digital, blended, and simulation-based learning.
  5. Advocate for increased institutional funding and resources for CMD education and research.
  6. Engage with CHAK MTC leadership, faculty, and students to build consensus and support for curriculum reforms and advanced pedagogical practices.
  7. Assist in organizing training workshops and mentorship programs to enhance research capabilities among faculty and students.
  8. Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions to foster a culture of evidence-based advocacy within Medical Training Colleges.
  9. Collaborate closely with partners such as CHAK, KMTC, KCCB, Amref, APHRC, and NCD Alliance Kenya to align research and advocacy priorities.
  10. Strengthen inter-MTC collaboration within CHAK to ensure consistent implementation of innovative teaching practices.
  11. Monitor the progress of research and advocacy initiatives at the institutional level.
  12. Prepare comprehensive reports, case studies, and success stories for program documentation.
  13. Contribute to donor reporting and institutional publications.

Requirements

  1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a medical-related field such as Nursing, Clinical Medicine & Surgery, or Medical Laboratory Sciences; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
  2. Possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in education and implementation research, advocacy, or health systems strengthening.
  3. Have prior work experience as a tutor in medical training colleges.
  4. Demonstrate proven expertise in competency-based education and faculty development.
  5. Exhibit a strong understanding of Cardiometabolic Diseases (CMDs), Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and workforce development challenges specific to Kenya.
  6. Possess experience in institutional advocacy and engaging with academic leadership.
  7. Demonstrate gender-responsive and equity-focused leadership.
  8. Possess strong research and analytical skills.
  9. Have knowledge of innovative teaching methods and digital pedagogy.
  10. Exhibit the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  11. Possess strong advocacy and communication abilities.
