Job Description
The General Manager, Procurement will be responsible for overseeing the entire procurement process within SBM Bank (Kenya) Limited. This includes developing and implementing cost-effective purchasing strategies, managing relationships with key suppliers, and engaging internally to align user needs with quality standards. The role also involves aligning procurement plans with the bank's overall strategic objectives and establishing service level agreements with internal departments. Furthermore, the manager will conduct KYC reviews for material suppliers, develop risk mitigation procedures, review supplier contracts with the legal department, and perform periodic supplier performance evaluations. Leadership of the procurement team and secretariat functions for the Procurement Committee are also key aspects of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement sound, cost-effective strategies for purchasing goods and services.
- Manage stakeholder relationships, including maintaining good relationships with key suppliers.
- Engage internally to improve alignment between user needs and quality standards/specifications.
- Benchmark and engage with other industry players for best practices.
- Align procurement plans with the bank's overall strategic objectives.
- Prepare and ensure adherence to service level agreements with user departments.
- Conduct KYC reviews for all material suppliers of the Bank.
- Develop risk management procedures to mitigate losses from supplier performance.
- Review all material supplier contracts with the Legal department to ensure favorable terms and conditions.
- Carry out periodic supplier performance evaluations.
- Perform secretariat functions for the Procurement Committee.
- Provide leadership to the procurement team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement & Supplies Chain Management, or a Business-related degree with a Diploma in Procurement & Supplies Chain Management.
- Mandatory membership of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in a procurement function.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
- Strong strategy and negotiation skills.
- Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of basic contract laws.
- In-depth knowledge of procurement and purchasing best practices.
- Familiarity with the Bank’s products and services.
- High level of integrity.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player.
- Results-oriented approach.
- Strong business awareness.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-driven with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
