Job Description
Team4Tech is seeking an Africa Regional Hub Lead to be based remotely, preferably in Nairobi, Kenya. This senior leadership role requires extensive experience in leading complex teams and initiatives, a deep understanding of the edtech and employment landscape in Africa, and the ability to connect regional work with global trends. The successful candidate will be instrumental in expanding Team4Tech’s thought leadership on the continent and representing the organization at high-level regional and global forums. The role involves defining and driving a cutting-edge regional strategy, translating it effectively into annual work plans, and ensuring all programmatic activities are delivered to high standards, informed by evidence and data.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership for the Africa Hub, making decisions on regional priorities, resource allocation, and program direction.
- Ensure coherence and integration across all Hub workstreams and report on performance, risks, and priorities to organizational leadership.
- Develop and drive a multi-year regional strategy aligned with organizational goals and emerging trends in African edtech, employment, and workforce development.
- Translate global organizational strategy into regionally relevant priorities and ensure regional learning informs global strategy.
- Define annual workplan priorities for the Africa region and ensure on-time delivery using Team4Tech’s program management tools.
- Build, manage, and coach a cohesive, motivated, and high-performing regional team, establishing clear roles, workflows, and communication structures.
- Foster a strong team culture that supports collaboration, accountability, staff retention, and alignment with organizational values.
- Serve as the organization’s senior representative with Ministries of Education, donors, sector networks, and private-sector partners across target countries.
- Represent Team4Tech at regional and global convenings, conferences, and policy forums, and support negotiations and partnership agreements.
- Oversee the execution of NGO cohort trainings, Strategic NGO and Learning Partner engagement, and program delivery milestones.
- Set and implement quality standards across program design, facilitation, and materials, ensuring program decisions are informed by evidence and data.
- Lead and manage special funded initiatives for the Africa region, such as multi-country AI capacity development programming, ensuring delivery against funder timelines and budgets.
- Contribute to organizational monitoring, evaluation, and research, championing the strategic use of M&E data for regional decision-making and thought leadership.
- Identify regional research and evidence-building priorities and ensure lessons learned are shared across the organization.
- Position the Hub as a driver of organizational and sectoral thought leadership by contributing to publications, reports, and conference presentations.
- Cultivate the Hub’s reputation as a go-to resource on African edtech and workforce development trends.
- Identify opportunities to elevate NGO partners’ and staff voices in sector conversations.
Requirements
- Passionate advocate for Team4Tech’s mission and values, sharing the vision to expand access to quality education and economic opportunity through technology.
- Direct experience leading AI for education initiatives in low-resource settings in Africa, including AI training content development or strategic AI advisory projects.
- Understanding of leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) and adaptive learning platforms to optimize pedagogical outcomes.
- 15+ years of applicable experience in education and/or program management, ideally leading technology strategy and implementation in an educational setting.
- Strong regional networks in the international development and education sectors.
- Excellent understanding of project management techniques and methods, with strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to develop rapport easily and foster long-term connections, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
- Well-organized and resourceful team player, experienced in managing multiple projects and tasks proactively and independently.
- Extensive experience supporting education NGOs and systems in Africa, with a track record of working in diverse cultural settings.
- Willingness and ability to travel locally and regionally within Africa (approximately 30-35% of the year) and internationally.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in international education, international development, education technology, public policy, business administration, or a related field.
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in international development, education, or workforce development programming in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Strategic thinker capable of balancing big-picture vision with hands-on operational oversight.
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-country or multi-partner programs, ideally involving consortium structures (NGOs, Ministries of Education, private sector partners).
- Experience designing and overseeing large-scale cascade or trainer-of-trainer program models in coordination with Ministries of Education.
- Experience representing an organization externally at a senior level with government counterparts, funders, and at sector convenings.
- Experience using evidence and data from M&E systems to inform organizational strategy and course corrections, with exposure to designing or overseeing M&E frameworks in a multi-country context.
- Demonstrated ability to translate program data and evidence into strategic insights, funder-facing narratives, and sector-level thought leadership.
- Strong program and people management skills, including experience building and leading a large, cohesive team across multiple countries and time zones.
- Familiarity with technology tools for effective team management, program planning, and tracking.
- Strong familiarity with the education, technology skills, Artificial Intelligence, and/or workforce development sector in Africa.
- In-depth understanding of the policy and infrastructure context across the continent.
- Significant budget and grant management experience, including donor reporting and financial compliance requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience contributing to thought leadership (reports, publications, conference presentations).
- Existing network of relationships with regional stakeholders, including Ministries of Education, NGOs, donors, and/or private sector partners in the education/AI/technology space in Africa.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and influence across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Fluent spoken and written English required; French or Portuguese proficiency is a plus.
