The Accounts Assistant supports the Finance function within the VisionFund Kenya Office. Reporting to the Financial accountant the individual supports the finance team in strengthening internal controls, maintaining proper documentation, and improving efficiency in financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Process bank & M-Pesa payments, including business floats, statutory payments, invoices, and staff wages accurately.
  2. Verify supplier invoices, ETR receipts, and LPOs.
  3. Review payroll adjustments and reports.
  4. Process payroll transactions and post monthly payroll journals.
  5. Monitor daily bank balances and maintain cash flow reports.
  6. Manage short-term cash requirements and inter-bank transfers.
  7. Conduct daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
  8. Resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate accounting records.
  9. Maintain and reconcile ledger accounts.
  10. Post journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and intercompany transactions.
  11. Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  12. Prepare and post end-of-month journals.
  13. Prepare statutory tax returns/payments (VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, excise duty).
  14. Ensure compliance with local and international tax regulations.
  15. Prepare funded project reports and monitor budgets.
  16. Generate management reports.
  17. Ensure proper safe custody management.
  18. And any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor

Requirements

  1. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – Section 3
  2. Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Administration, Accounting or Finance
  3. Basic knowledge of accounting principles
  4. Familiarity with accounting software and MS Excel
  5. Understanding of tax, payroll, and statutory compliance concepts
  6. Exposure to bank reconciliation & financial reporting
  7. Attention to detail and willingness to learn
  8. Analytical and problem-solving mindset
  9. Time management and ability to support deadlines (improve TAT)
  10. Integrity and professionalism
  11. Good communication and teamwork
