Job Description
The Case Writer will play a crucial role in supporting the Strathmore Africa Case Centre (SACC) by overseeing the entire lifecycle of case studies, from submission and review to final publication. This involves providing expert advice to the Hub Lead, conducting thorough preliminary reviews and due diligence on all submitted cases, and managing follow-up processes with reviewers. The role also encompasses handling all SACC email communications, meticulously recording minutes for various meetings and events, and capturing essential metadata for each case study. Furthermore, the Case Writer is responsible for ensuring the functionality of the Case Centre's website and submission portal, recommending process improvements, and coordinating all logistical aspects of SACC activities. The position requires close collaboration with university communication teams and the editorial board to facilitate the final approval and upload of cases, alongside performing comprehensive proofreading, editing, and plagiarism checks. The individual will also maintain a centralized log of all cases, contribute to writing new cases, represent the SACC at various forums, and ensure strict adherence to ethical and regulatory publishing standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise the Hub Lead/Editor in Chief on the suitability of submitted draft cases.
- Conduct preliminary reviews and due diligence on all cases submitted to SACC within specified timelines.
- Manage follow-up reviews for cases assigned to reviewers, sending periodic reminders.
- Handle and respond to the Case Centre's dedicated email correspondence.
- Record minutes for all meetings, workshops, seminars, and training sessions organized by the Case Centre.
- Capture all necessary metadata for case studies before their final publication on the website.
- Ensure the Case Centre website and submission portal remain active and fully functional.
- Provide recommendations to the SACC lead team for improving case submission, review, and related activities.
- Under the Hub Lead's guidance, ensure timely handling of all submitted case studies.
- Execute all logistical and coordination activities for SACC-organized events from start to finish.
- Perform all requisite checks before, during, and after cases are accepted by SACC.
- Liaise with SBS and Strathmore University communications teams for final case uploads to the website.
- Facilitate joint approval meetings with the Case Centre editorial board before cases are uploaded.
- Proofread, edit, and conduct plagiarism checks for all submitted cases.
- Maintain a centralized log of all submitted and accepted cases under SACC.
- Write case studies for the Case Centre as required.
- Represent the Hub Lead at local and international forums where SACC participates.
- Ensure adherence to all ethical and regulatory requirements for publishing cases and other SACC publications.
Requirements
- Hold a minimum Master’s degree in Business, Communication Studies, or a related field.
- Possession of certification in specialized English writing and oratory skills is an advantage.
- Have 2-3 years of experience in a writing and/or publishing environment.
- Provide proven evidence of published works, such as a research journal paper or an educational case study on reputable platforms.
- Demonstrate excellent English writing, formatting, proofreading, and editing skills.
- Possess the ability to write captivating, business-like stories in a formal setting.
- Exhibit excellent communication, analytical, and oratory skills.
- Be technically proficient with MS Office products, particularly MS Word and Excel.
- Show demonstrable strength in process and standards discipline, along with customer-oriented skills.
- Possess strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Be able to prioritize, multi-task, and collaborate effectively with others.
- Demonstrate proven skills in people and relationship management.
