Legal Counsel, Risk & Compliance

KCB Bank Kenya is a leading financial institution providing a wide range of banking and financial services across East Africa. It focuses on innovation and customer-centric solutions for individuals and businesses.

The Legal Counsel, Risk & Compliance will be responsible for monitoring and interpreting new and existing legislation, judicial decisions, and market trends that impact the bank. The role involves analyzing compliance requirements, advising on legal compliance matters, and supporting the bank in adhering to all applicable laws and regulations. The counsel will also conduct internal legal compliance audits, develop mitigating measures for identified legal risks, and update compliance tools. Additionally, the position provides legal support for drafting and reviewing bank policies and product terms, manages Powers of Attorney, and offers legal guidance on court orders.

1. Review legislation, proposed bills, judicial decisions, best practices, and market trends to advise on their impact on the Bank and recommend policy and procedure changes.
2. Analyze compliance requirements for existing, new, or revised laws and regulations, providing support to ensure the Bank's adherence to all applicable legal frameworks.
3. Conduct internal legal compliance audits and examinations to verify compliance with legislative requirements.
4. Collaborate with relevant business units to develop and implement mitigating measures and remedial actions for identified legal risks.
5. Update legal compliance checklists and matrixes used for reviews in line with current legislation.
6. Provide legal support for research, drafting, and review of Bank policies and product terms and conditions.
7. Manage Powers of Attorney, including preparation, registration, revocation, and maintaining relevant data.
8. Verify Court Orders and provide legal guidance on their implementation and execution.
9. Maintain and procure departmental reference materials, subscribe to official legal publications, and ensure the Bank’s Laws of Kenya sets are regularly updated.
10. Perform any other assigned duties.

1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B).
2. Possess a Diploma in Law.
3. Be an Advocate of the High Court.
4. Have at least 4 years of post-admission work experience, including expertise in legal drafting, corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution, and legal risk management.
5. Demonstrate excellent communication and advocacy skills.
6. Exhibit strong written and verbal communication abilities.
