Job Description

The Corporate Affairs Officer will provide essential support to the Corporate Affairs department at Mabati Rolling Mills Limited. This involves assisting the Head of Corporate Affairs with various tasks, including the preparation of departmental reports and tracking the impact of activities in collaboration with the Marketing team. The officer will also contribute to stakeholder engagement by helping to develop and monitor engagement plans, and support the creation and implementation of the PR & Communication strategy. Key responsibilities extend to coordinating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, managing relationships with regulatory bodies, drafting press releases, handling media inquiries, and monitoring news coverage to protect the corporate brand. The role also includes providing logistical and branding support for corporate events, collaborating with HR on employee engagement programs, and leading internal communication activities to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment across the organization. This involves executing corporate identity guidelines, designing internal communication campaigns for group initiatives, and planning content for various internal mediums like intranets and email bulletins.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Prepare various reports for the Corporate Affairs department, including monthly departmental reports and periodic activity impact tracking in collaboration with the Marketing team.
  2. Support the Head of Corporate Affairs in stakeholder engagement, including preparing stakeholder mapping and engagement plans and monitoring their effectiveness.
  3. Assist in the development and implementation of the PR & Communication strategy and its associated plan, monitoring its effectiveness.
  4. Coordinate CSR initiatives and manage relationships with regulatory bodies or industry partners.
  5. Support in drafting press releases, managing media inquiries, and monitoring news coverage to safeguard the corporate brand.
  6. Provide logistical and branding support for corporate events, conferences, and stakeholder engagement forums, coordinating with Marketing and HR teams.
  7. Collaborate with HR on engagement programs to improve employee retention and brand advocacy.
  8. Drive the company’s internal communication activities, ensuring correct use of corporate and branding elements.
  9. Design and lead internal communication campaigns for Group initiatives, critical projects, and employee engagement programs.
  10. Ensure consistency of internal communication messages across all media and departments.
  11. Plan, edit, and write content for internal communication mediums such as staff intranets, magazines, or email bulletins.
  12. Highlight and publish internal activities across the business.
  13. Co-create engaging campaigns that continuously leverage the organization’s brand.
  14. Support the Head of Corporate Affairs and PR & Communications Manager on assigned topics.

Requirements

  1. Hold a degree-level qualification, preferably in Media and Communications, Marketing, PR, Journalism, or Business Administration.
  2. Possession of relevant professional qualifications, such as a Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR – Diploma Level), is an advantage.
  3. Possess 7 years of relevant experience in communications, Public Relations, Media, Digital communication, or Event planning.
  4. Experience with employee engagement, content creation, and digital platforms is an advantage.
  5. Background in writing for diverse audiences, managing intranets, and supporting organizational change is preferred.
  6. Experience in a corporate, agency, or not-for-profit communications team is preferred.
  7. Ability to work with and influence senior management.
  8. High-quality written and verbal communication skills, with expert-level content drafting for various channels.
  9. Well-developed organizational skills.
  10. High level of computer literacy, including advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  11. Digital proficiency with social media expertise (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter) and competence in CMS, intranet platforms, and basic graphic design or video editing.
  12. Experience in organizing internal events, town halls, or team-building activities.
  13. Ability to use surveys and digital analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, Hotjar) to evaluate communication impact.
  14. High interest and exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  15. Ability to bring diverse teams together.
  16. Innovative, creative, with attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
  17. Analytical, organized, passionate, and a driven self-starter.
