People Operations Lead

The People Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day human resources functions across all of Turaco's operational markets. This includes managing the entire employee lifecycle from recruitment and payroll to contracting. The role involves direct supervision of People Operations Associates and acts as the key implementer for the People Operations Manager, ensuring that HR processes are effectively executed on time and tailored to each country's specific needs. This position is vital for maintaining the smooth operation of the People function, thereby enabling the People Operations Manager to concentrate on strategic projects and critical decision-making.

1. Manage the end-to-end recruitment process for short-term staff and Customer Operations Associate roles, including sourcing, screening, interviews, and offers.
2. Coordinate scheduling, shortlisting, and candidate communication for all other open positions, providing support to the People Operations Manager.
3. Keep the applicant tracking system updated and provide clear visibility of the candidate pipeline to hiring managers.
4. Prepare monthly payroll for assigned markets, collaborating with the Finance department and external payroll providers.
5. Oversee all contracting activities, including offer letters, renewals, confirmations, and documentation for role changes.
6. Coordinate work permits, visas, and other necessary documentation for cross-border staff movements and expat hires.
7. Conduct onboarding processes, covering first-day logistics, paperwork, and welcome experiences, as well as offboarding procedures like exit checklists and interviews.
8. Track leave utilization and flag instances of under- or over-use to managers.
9. Research and apply relevant statutory and tax regulations pertaining to payroll and benefits in each market.
10. Directly manage People Operations Associates, assigning tasks, reviewing work quality, and resolving daily operational issues.
11. Review and approve Associates’ proposed solutions for routine HR matters, escalating any unusual situations to the People Operations Manager.
12. Coordinate the logistics for performance review cycles, including sending reminders, tracking forms, and managing documentation.
13. Execute culture and engagement initiatives designed by the People Operations Manager.

1. Possess 3–5 years of experience in Generalist HR or People Operations, ideally with exposure to multi-country or multi-entity payroll.
2. Have experience managing at least one direct report, or demonstrate clear readiness to take on management responsibilities.
3. Experience working in a startup or fast-growth company is strongly preferred.
4. Be comfortable with ambiguity and adept at hands-on, detailed work, as this is an execution-focused role.
5. Have experience working with HRIS/ATS systems (e.g., Breezy, BambooHR, SeamlessHR), given the highly automated nature of the People Function.
6. Be confident in using AI tools, with an emphasis on effectively directing models to enhance capability and efficiency.
7. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Management or Commerce; an HR certification (e.g., IHRM, CHRP) is a plus.
