ICT Assistant

KCA University (KCAU) is a higher learning institution founded in 1989, located in Nairobi, Kenya, offering education and training.

The job holder will provide technical support and assistance in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of ICT systems, hardware, and software within KCAU. The ICT Assistant will ensure users receive timely and effective support in classrooms and computer labs, manage computer and software inventory, and contribute to the smooth operation of ICT services.

1. Troubleshoot, analyse, and repair problems with computer elements such as desktop computers, laptops, and various components/peripherals of an IT network.
2. Initiate the procurement process for required ICT equipment by providing equipment specifications for different university sections/departments.
3. Prepare reports on the condition of ICT equipment within the University and submit them to the Director, ICT for decision-making.
4. Maintain computing systems (hardware, software, and networks), data communication systems, and ICT equipment through preventive maintenance and repairs.
5. Troubleshoot software and hardware compatibility issues and ensure all failed computer products and processes are identified and solved.
6. Obtain, set up, and install computer software for ICT training laboratories to enable users to perform their activities effectively.
7. Assist the ICT Trainers and Computer Technologists in carrying out various laboratory/workshop activities to support learning in the University.
8. Install and configure Enterprise Resource Planning software system for university computers.
9. Distribution of procured ICT equipment to departments/campuses to ensure equitable and effective use of ICT resources.
10. Manage ICT equipment inventory by updating the database regularly to identify any losses and recommend upgrades.
11. Manage and track user work tickets to ensure proper use of university resources and assets.
12. Install and configure antivirus software, and manage the antivirus server software to combat new viruses and protect university computers and information from vulnerabilities.
13. Carry out other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor.

1. Bachelors degree in ICT or its equivalent from an accredited/recognised Institution.
2. At least one (1) year of relevant work experience from an institution of higher learning or a large commercial enterprise.
3. Any other professional qualifications will be an added advantage.
