Job Description
The Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) is seeking a dedicated Driver to support its Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (RMNCH) Project. The primary responsibility is to offer secure, dependable, and punctual transportation services for project staff and other authorized individuals to various implementation sites. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining the project vehicle in excellent, roadworthy condition with all necessary documentation, and providing essential logistical and administrative assistance for field operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, reliable, and professional driving services to project staff and authorized personnel on official assignments.
- Maintain high standards of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.
- Efficiently plan and manage travel routes, including long-distance and field assignments across Kenya.
- Conduct safety briefings before journeys and ensure strict adherence to traffic laws and CHAK transport policies.
- Transport project supplies, health commodities, training materials, and equipment to health facilities and field sites, ensuring secure and intact delivery.
- Maintain assigned vehicle(s) in excellent condition, ensuring cleanliness, roadworthiness, proper fueling, and timely servicing.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and coordinate minor maintenance as needed.
- Ensure the vehicle has valid insurance, inspection certificates, a complete first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and emergency equipment at all times.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date transport records, including trip logs, fuel records, mileage returns, maintenance schedules, and incident reports.
- Support the Procurement Manager with fleet-related processes, such as obtaining repair quotations, liaising with approved garages and suppliers, and following up on deliveries.
- Provide logistical support during project activities like trainings, community outreaches, supportive supervision visits, health facility assessments, and review meetings.
- Assist passengers with entry and exit from the vehicle when required.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, including administering basic first aid and notifying emergency services.
- Take brief notes or minutes during selected meetings, field visits, and official engagements as required.
- Support basic photography for official meetings, events, and field activities, adhering to CHAK communication standards.
- Assist in dispatch and courier coordination for official correspondence, packages, and project documents.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Minimum of a High School Certificate (KCSE).
- Valid and clean Class BCE driver’s license and a certificate of good conduct.
- An AA (Automobile Association of Kenya) driving certificate is an added advantage.
- At least five (5) years of proven driving experience, preferably within an NGO or donor-funded project setting.
- Demonstrated experience driving manual and 4WD vehicles across diverse terrains in Kenya.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and routine maintenance; a first aid certificate is an added advantage.
- Computer literacy.
- Commitment to Christian values and willingness to work within a faith-based environment while respecting diverse beliefs.
- Basic photography skills.
- Extensive knowledge of vehicle operations and features.
- Basic automobile mechanical skills.
- Ability to read maps, follow navigation systems, and prepare basic reports.
