Job Description
As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Business Development and Grants Manager (BDGM) will play a crucial role in enhancing and diversifying Trócaire's funding streams for its country programmes. This position involves aligning with organizational and country-specific institutional funding strategies, elevating Trócaire's profile among potential donors, and guiding the programme team through the entire process of developing and managing well-structured projects and programmes for submission to institutional donors. The BDGM reports to the Country Director and directly supervises a Grants and Compliance Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and regularly update the country institutional funding strategy and action plan in coordination with the wider country team and Head Office.
- Acquire in-depth knowledge of country strategic frameworks and all programmes in Somalia.
- Maintain and update a database of potential donors and inform colleagues about donor strategies, priorities, and application requirements.
- Lead the development and implementation of Trócaire Somalia’s funding strategy, identifying and pursuing institutional funding opportunities from various donors, embassies, and trust funds.
- Stay informed on donor policy developments and trends in the development and humanitarian sectors, representing Trócaire in relevant funding networks.
- Strengthen existing donor relationships and build new ones, supporting programme staff and management in this effort.
- Coordinate the development of institutional funding applications, including concept notes and full proposals (narrative and financial sections), in collaboration with various internal teams.
- Provide guidance and support to staff and partners to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and donor requirements.
- Lead grant inception, review, and close-out meetings for the programme team.
- Maintain and/or develop grant and programme financial management tracking systems, ensuring compliance with financial requirements.
- Support programme coordinators and partners in the timely development of reports.
- Review all donor contracts and inform country management and programme coordinators of Trócaire’s responsibilities.
- Ensure all programme and project documentation is properly maintained on Trócaire’s Management Information System (Salesforce).
- Upload and maintain funding information on Salesforce, including reporting for the Somalia funding pipeline.
- Contribute to institutional funding planning, evaluation, and learning exercises as a member of the global funding team.
- Provide support to colleagues in specific areas of expertise and attend relevant meetings and training.
- Elaborate strategy summaries, capacity statements, communication content, and visibility documents for donor meetings and communication departments.
- Line manage the Grants and Compliance Officer, ensuring clear understanding of roles, performance objectives, and regular reviews.
- Support the Country Director in building new donor contacts, strengthening existing relationships, and negotiating new contracts.
- Represent Trócaire to external parties, including donor and coordination meetings, when required.
- Work closely with the Head Office to ensure coordinated donor contact.
- Develop briefing and promotional materials to showcase programmes and generate interest.
- Fulfill other reasonable duties as requested by the Country Director, including deputizing when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor Degree qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience in business development and grants management, particularly with institutional donors.
- Strong understanding of institutional funding strategies and donor requirements.
- Experience in leading proposal development (narrative and financial).
- Ability to advise on donor funding streams and structure funding applications.
- Experience in programme management, including implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of financial management tracking systems and compliance.
- Experience in line management and performance management.
- Strong external relationship building and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
