Job Description
The Quality Assurance Engineer at Kenya Airways is tasked with upholding all regulatory requirements and applying consistent maintenance standards and organizational procedures to both Kenya Airways and customer aircraft. The primary goal is to deliver airworthy, reliable, and high-quality aviation products efficiently and economically. Additionally, the engineer is responsible for independently maintaining the company's Quality System.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct planned and ad-hoc audits, inspections, spot checks, and surveys across all Technical sections within Kenya Airways, providing detailed written reports.
- Analyze data from these audits, identifying and communicating discrepancies in writing to section heads through formal reports that detail findings, required corrective actions, and timelines.
- Follow up on and verify the closure of audit actions, monitoring the effectiveness of corrective measures through feedback and direct surveillance.
- Log reported occurrences into the QA database, classifying them for reporting to relevant authorities such as KCAA, EASA, Customer’s Civil Aviation Authority, or Operators.
- Participate in incident investigations under the guidance of a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE).
- Review applications for authorization.
- Participate in approval examinations under SQAE guidance.
- Prepare, monitor, and update records for certifying staff, ensuring all necessary information is included.
- Prepare applications to the Authority and gather required data for the issuance or renewal of Certificates of Airworthiness (CoA), Certificates of Registration (CoR), and radio license certificates.
- Prepare Quality Assurance Airworthiness statistics as needed.
- Provide data on safety matters to the SQAE as required.
- Prepare and maintain databases for maintenance approvals issued to Kenya Airways by various Civil Aviation Authorities and Airlines, as well as certification bodies like IOSA and KENAS, tracking their validity and initiating renewal processes.
- Prepare and maintain databases for KCAA approvals granted to organizations performing maintenance on Kenya Airways aircraft or parts.
- Process and make available aircraft and related documentation/certificates.
- Perform any other duties within the Quality Assurance Section as assigned by the Quality Manager or Lead/PQAE/SQAE.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering.
- Knowledge of standard aircraft manuals and engineering procedures manuals.
- Conversant with all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Basic knowledge of aircraft systems.
- Completion of a graduate trainee program or equivalent, OR at least 3 years of aviation engineering experience with a relevant engineering degree, OR at least 5 years of aviation maintenance experience with a Diploma in a relevant engineering field.
- Fully conversant with relevant technical procedures.
- Basic knowledge of audit processes and root cause analysis.
- Demonstrated experience in report writing.
- Basic knowledge of Industrial Safety Standards.
- Conversant with relevant IT tools and systems.
