Technical Trainee - Automotive Service & Bodyshop Technician

The Technical Trainee will actively participate in all assigned training, coaching, and development programs, acquiring in-depth knowledge of automotive systems, repair procedures, manufacturer standards, and safety requirements. The role involves assisting with vehicle inspections and routine maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacement, and fluid checks. Trainees will support technicians in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults, as well as assisting with the repair and replacement of vehicle components. Bodyshop operations will include assisting with vehicle damage assessments, panel repair, dent removal, welding, sanding, and preparing vehicles for painting. The trainee will also be responsible for maintaining workshop tools and equipment, ensuring proper handling of customer vehicles, assisting with spare parts management, and adhering to operational efficiency and safety standards. Additionally, the role requires demonstrating professionalism in customer interactions, supporting service advisors, and assisting with documentation such as job cards, inspection reports, and training records.

1. Actively participate in all assigned training, coaching, and development programs.
2. Acquire comprehensive knowledge of automotive systems, repair procedures, manufacturer standards, and safety requirements.
3. Demonstrate continuous learning and application of acquired technical knowledge.
4. Complete all assigned training modules, assessments, and development projects within specified timelines.
5. Assist in conducting vehicle inspections and routine maintenance activities.
6. Support servicing activities including oil changes, filter replacement, fluid checks, battery maintenance, and vehicle inspections.
7. Assist technicians in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults.
8. Support the repair and replacement of vehicle components under supervision.
9. Participate in pre-delivery inspections and vehicle quality checks.
10. Assist in vehicle damage assessments and body repair processes.
11. Support panel repair, dent removal, welding, sanding, filling, masking, and surface preparation activities.
12. Assist in the disassembly and reassembly of vehicle body components.
13. Support accident repair and restoration activities under the guidance of experienced bodyshop technicians.
14. Participate in vehicle preparation for painting and refinishing processes.
15. Maintain workshop and bodyshop tools, equipment, and workstations in a clean and organized condition.
16. Ensure proper handling and care of customer vehicles.
17. Assist in the management of spare parts, consumables, and workshop materials.
18. Support operational efficiency by adhering to established service procedures and turnaround timelines.
19. Adhere to all occupational health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
20. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
21. Follow safe handling procedures for automotive equipment, paints, chemicals, lubricants, and other hazardous materials.
22. Report safety concerns, incidents, and equipment defects promptly.
23. Demonstrate professionalism and customer-centric behavior in all interactions.
24. Support service advisors and workshop teams in delivering exceptional customer experiences.
25. Uphold company values and standards of customer care.
26. Assist in completing job cards, inspection reports, training records, and workshop documentation.
27. Maintain accurate records of completed assignments and training activities.
28. Prepare progress reports as required by supervisors and program coordinators.

1. Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related Engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
2. Minimum of Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent.
3. Minimum KCSE Mean Grade B+ (Plus).
4. Fresh graduate, having graduated within the last two (2) years.
5. Aged 24 years and below at the time of application.
6. Demonstrated interest in automotive service, diagnostics, and body shop operations.
7. Industrial attachment, internship, or practical exposure in an automotive workshop or body shop environment will be an added advantage.
8. Possession of a valid driving license will be an added advantage.
