Job Description

The Business Banker and Business Officer role at Premier Bank is crucial for driving the growth of the bank's asset and liability books. This involves meeting allocated targets, effectively managing a portfolio of key corporate accounts, and providing essential support to the Head of Business in areas such as administration, market intelligence gathering, and the execution of business strategies. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing profitable, long-term asset business with reputable companies, acting as a primary consultant to clients' senior management on financing strategies, and maintaining strong relationships to manage expectations and ensure understanding of Premier Bank's offerings. The role also entails proactively identifying and responding to evolving customer needs, handling corporate customer transactions in collaboration with branch managers, and continuously seeking cross-selling opportunities to integrate the bank's products with customer requirements. A key aspect is identifying and developing a dynamic pipeline for new, profitable customers, while strictly adhering to Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. The position also involves participating in cross-functional activities, providing periodic performance reports on marketing efforts, actively managing and developing the customer portfolio to sustain income sources, structuring and negotiating finance and lease agreements, and coordinating services for assigned clients. Furthermore, the role requires monitoring contractual obligations, engaging in retention marketing, offering outstanding relationship management and advice to business customers, negotiating new financing arrangements, preparing proposals for approval, contributing to corporate business strategy, and adopting a value-based approach to cost control.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop cost-effective, long-term asset business with reputable companies to ensure maximum bank profitability.
  2. Act as a key consultant to clients' senior management, providing evaluation and implementation of financing strategies.
  3. Maintain adequate relationship contact with assigned customers to manage expectations and ensure understanding of PBK.
  4. Anticipate and be continually sensitive to shifting customer expectations, initiating measures to ensure PBK stays ahead of competitors in customer service.
  5. Handle transactions for corporate customers on a day-to-day basis in liaison with branch managers, ensuring the bank is not unduly exposed.
  6. Continually identify and exploit cross-selling opportunities that embed the bank and its products with customers' needs.
  7. Identify and develop a dynamic target pipeline and market for new profitable customers from identified target sectors.
  8. Ensure compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements in all dealings with customers.
  9. Participate in cross-functional activities that promote collective responsibility towards the bank's objectives.
  10. Provide periodic performance reporting on marketing activities as specifically defined.
  11. Actively manage and develop the portfolio by maintaining existing income sources.
  12. Develop and manage customer relationships with target customers through active and measurable call visit plans.
  13. Be responsible for structuring and negotiating finance and/or lease agreements according to established guidelines.
  14. Coordinate services for assigned clients, monitor contractual obligations, and actively participate in retentive marketing efforts.
  15. Provide outstanding relationship management and advice to a varied and challenging mix of business customers.
  16. Negotiate new financing arrangements and opportunities, preparing and reviewing proposals for approval.
  17. Contribute to the formulation of strategies for the corporate business.
  18. Adopt a value-based management approach to cost control.

Requirements

  1. Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a finance-related field.
  2. Possess professional banking operations training (e.g., AKIB, ACIB) or a Business Development background.
  3. Have a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience in a similar position with proven results.
  4. Demonstrate a passion for selling and client relationship management.
  5. Possess experience in the banking industry or a financial institution.
  6. Have a proven record of successfully managing customer relations and growing a portfolio of financing and asset clients.
  7. Be a go-getter, enthusiastic, and results-oriented individual with excellent communication and social skills.
  8. Be a forward planner with a clear focus, an ardent team player, mature, reliable, hardworking, and able to work without supervision.
  9. Possess sound knowledge of the Bank’s products and services, as well as CBK Prudential Guidelines.
  10. Understand the Banking Act, Central Bank Regulations, and prudential guidelines.
  11. Have knowledge of current trends in client relations and business trends in banking and financial institutions.
  12. Demonstrate a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality when dealing with internal and external customers.
  13. Possess a high sense of diplomacy, accuracy, attention to detail, and strong analytical ability.
  14. Maintain high levels of professionalism and commitment to professional development.
  15. Exhibit business acumen, be a strategic thinker with the ability to make sound decisions for the business.
  16. Have good PR/interpersonal skills, outstanding communication and reporting skills, problem analysis, and listening ability.
  17. Be honest with impeccable integrity and high ethical standards.
  18. Be adept in the use of Ms Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Internet, and email.
