The Field Service Technician will be based at the Nairobi Office, reporting to the Field Service Manager, and may be deployed regionally to support field operations and customer needs. The primary responsibility is to deliver excellent technical service by effectively diagnosing faults, repairing, installing, commissioning, and performing preventive maintenance on D&S equipment and systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, service, test, and maintain equipment and systems at customer sites.
- Systematically diagnose faults, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Verify equipment and system performance after repairs, maintenance, or commissioning.
- Respond to service requests within agreed timelines and aim for effective first-time resolution to minimize repeat visits.
- Prepare accurate service, maintenance, commissioning, and inspection reports, detailing equipment condition, work performed, parts used, recommendations, and customer sign-off.
- Record field activities using the company’s service management and digital field-service systems.
- Provide professional technical advice, explaining faults, corrective actions, operating requirements, and recommendations to customers.
- Identify and report opportunities for additional repair, maintenance, replacement, upgrade, and service.
- Coordinate or provide technical direction to assistants, subcontractors, and other site personnel as needed.
- Maintain and account for assigned tools, test equipment, spare parts, consumables, and company vehicles.
- Comply with company procedures, occupational health and safety requirements, environmental standards, warranty procedures, and technical protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with Sales, Projects, Service, and other technical teams.
- Maintain positive customer relationships and represent the D&S brand professionally.
Requirements
- A Higher Diploma or Diploma in Water, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification from a recognized institution.
- At least three (3) years of relevant experience in water-treatment plant installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot pumps, dosing systems, filters, valves, control panels, instrumentation, and associated equipment.
- Good knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control systems.
- Customer-focused, professional, and service-oriented approach.
- Self-driven, reliable, and capable of working with minimum supervision.
- Practical and systematic problem-solving and fault diagnosis skills.
- Safety-conscious and disciplined in the use of tools, equipment, and company resources.
- Effective communication skills to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical customers.
- A team player willing to learn and adapt to new technologies and equipment.
- A valid driving license and willingness to travel extensively for field assignments.
- Experience with Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ultrafiltration (UF), water softeners, filtration, chlorination, and chemical dosing systems is an added advantage.
- EPRA Electrical C1/C2 or Solar T2/T3 qualification, or equivalent practical installation experience, is an added advantage.
